I may be bitter, Cappy, but the fact that you donks aren't embarrassed, and instead spend your time trying to justify this joke of an award speaks VOLUMES about your common sense, your values, and your true political leanings. And ain't none of it good. You don't want what's best for the country, you just want to say "we won!". :shake: :shake: :shake:

My organic chemistry professor told me this. Nobel's brother died and some papers thought it was Nobel. Well, they didn't have very nice things to say about Nobel because he invented TNT and was heavily involved with supplying both sides of a war with weapons.

Since he got a real dose of what people really thought of him, he decided to change his reputation by creating the Nobel Peace Prize.

I briefly looked on the internet and of course Wikipedia had it, but we all know that is not exactly a ringing endorsement of fact. Figured if my organic chem professor, who not only taught at a liberal arts college was smart enough to write his own text (Dr Ralph Fessenden) and being a chem professor knew many other professors in the chemistry field, it was safe to assume the story is factual.

Alfred Nobel (arms manufacturer and founder of the Nobel Prize): in 1888, the death of his brother Ludvig caused several newspapers to publish obituaries of Alfred in error. A French obituary stated Le marchand de la mort est mort ("The merchant of death is dead") and that Nobel "became rich by finding ways to kill more people faster than ever before".[1] It is sometimes said that Nobel's unhappiness with the obituaries prompted his founding of the Nobel Prize in order to improve his posthumous legacy, though it is not clear whether this is true. (Incidentally, several Nobel Prize winners have also received premature obituaries, including Bertrand Russell, Nelson Mandela and Harold Pinter.) Nobel died in 1896

Sorry to leave you hanging on that rather broad generalization.

Jesus Fucking Christ, what an asshat. Like people don't already know this shit and who the fuck cares? It's the most prestigious awards today, and that's all that counts.

Oh, BTW, I found a picture of your organic chem professor:

"Sarah Palin absolutely blew AWAY the audience tonight. If there was any doubt as to whether she was savvy enough, tough enough or smart enough to carry the mantle of Vice President, she put those fears to rest tonight. She took on Barack Obama DIRECTLY on every issue and exposed... She did it with warmth and humor, and came across as the every-person....it's becoming mroe and more clear that she was a genius pick for McCain."

You didn't know shit and you know it.

I should have been more specific in my original statement. In this instance, the Nobel is a sham like its benefactor.

I actually don't find anything wrong with Obama receiving the Nobel. It is a prestigious award to win and only looks good for America and Obama. I can't hate Obama for simply winning an award he had no control over. But I will say it was given to him in a manner in which it was never intended. Talk.

Hey, Z, first, calm the fvck down. I'm not saying "we won" or any bullsh*t like that. He didn't ask for the award, but he's going to take it and, hopefully, do more in the way of peace. Again, as myself and TT pointed out, it's a big sigh of relief from the world and hope for the future of peace. It's a motivator. The world wants the US to be positive leaders, not the fvcks we became under Cheny/Bush.

Come on, bud. Ain't the end of the world.

He didn't exactly write it by himself. Williams Ayers helped him. ...yes, the same criminal terrorist Bill Ayers with whom Obama disavowed previous association.

Whether he deserves a Nobel Peace prize or not, I do not know... nor, do I really care.

Here's the reason he was given one: "for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples."

So, you can argue whether he has done that or not. I think he has.

Question: Does the entry (whomever submitted it) have to explain WHY they think he's qualified and what he's done to deserve the Prize, or much like the rest of Obama's career did they just put down that "he's not a Republican"?
