Three Reasons Obama Won The Nobel Peace Prize...

Post by Cap'n Cat »

What follows is my opinion. A damned fvcking good opinion it is, too, might I say.

1. This was the culmination of a vote for hope, as a guest on Morning Joe said this morning. Though she did not necessarily agree with the award because Obama's efforts haven't born much in the way of tangible results as of yet, but she is absolutely correct and, I believe, representative of the silent majority on this. The award shows that in this (from a homeland perspective, mostly Conk-induced) shitty state the world looks like it is still looking to America for leadership. Remember the gigantic sigh of relief when that fvck Bush was finally replaced in January? This is one result.

2. Related to the above, and think about this, thick-skulled Conks, there ain't another leader in the world doing ANYTHING to relieve tensions around the world. No courage whatsoever. Obama went to Cairo and addressed the Muslim world, talking of a new beginning and of peace and respect. Reaction was very positive.
NO ONE has done anything like that. Not Putin/Medvedev, not Merkel, not Nicolas Sarkozy, not Netanyahu, not Wen Jiabao, NO ONE has done a thing to make the world more peaceful, except for Obama. The first talks with our "arch enemy", Iran, in 30 years have started, initiated by Obama. The North Korea issue, though not resolved, has calmed.

3. The award is further proof of just how shitty things became under the Cheney adminsitration. He and his puppet, Bush, and their henchmen, Rummy and Condi, et al, had brought us to the brink of world conflict...and they did it with a smirk, all in the name of uberpatriotism, such that the world was mortally offended and disgusted with THAT America.

*************

Obama may be seen by some (Conks) as stumbling around domestically, faced with domestic issues that have not been seen since the 1930's, but the man is a world leader on the grandest scale and is working hard to make the globe a livable place free of conflict.

He deserves this award and more power to him. He could be a seven time winner.

Conks/Racists should be ashamed, too, of their negative contribution to world peace and should embrace this man, a genuine American and, now, world leader.

Bill Clinton deserved this award more that Obama. At least he freed those two girls.

Oh, I get it...so because people get warm fuzzies when they hear Obama speak, it gives them good reason to give him a prize without accomplishing anything?

Try this on for size: One day I'll be president and I'll make sure we have cold-fusion reactors and food synthesizers for the whole world. The abundance of energy and food will eliminate all reasons for tension between nations. Can I submit my name for next year's prize just for saying that on a message board?

Cap'n, everything you mentioned happened after the nomination date - even still, they were just words, not tangible results. Barry has demonstrated his gift of oratory, I'd just like to see something substantive come from all his bellowing. There are at least a dozen or more people who have actually accomplished something over the last year rather than TALKING about accomplishing something. I agree he's set a different tone for the US, but he hasn't actually DONE anything. Completely undeserved IMHO. :shake:

Gotta love that post! Setting up "Putin/Medvedev" for a straw man argument, claiming that it's a European apology for dumping on us so much for 8 years, bragging about more sure-to-be-empty rounds of talks with the Iranians and the NorKors. Cap'n, you slay me!

I agree, in some respects, with Cap'ns vote on 1 and 3 (except for the no brainer insults :D ). 2 should be replaced with The Committee says "Fuck Bush" :D

You slay me, too, IT, with your assumptions and reaching Conk extrapolations. Not once did Cap'n Cat say it is some sort of European apology. Your hate, it floweth over. And, yes, mine does, too.

Hey, I didn't vote for the man, but there are a lot of more deserving folks/organizations out there than BHO - agree?
IF BHO can back up what he's talking about he'll deserve some credit - I may not like it, but likely because I don't agree with some of his stances on things. I don't disagree with the guy because he's black if that's where you're going - I disagree with him because we don't see eye to eye on all issues. People of color shouldn't be enamored with him simply because they share a skin tone either but that's my opinion.

He won it because he's not George Bush, that is about all there is to it. That would be like giving the Oscar to Patrick Swayze because he ain't Keanu Reeves.

Thats Capns point though. It shows how bad Bushs image (which projects our image) was to the rest of the world. Obama is still an image of hope. I agree thats not a reason to win but its what Capn is saying

Nope, but you can continue to assume. The converse can be used with me and GWB Jr. Since you love to use initials, I think it's only fair. :D

If he makes it thru his term (let's give him to 2016, since I can't see him losing reelection at this point) without Iran and Israel bombing each other into oblivion, with a reasonable satisfactory reduction in forces in Iraq and Afghanistan with some semblance of security left behind, and with North Korea still reasonably contained - hey, my hat's off to the guy, cuz that'd be some fancy geopolitical footwork.

Anything less than that, and not only would the Nobel award be a farce, but it would be the disaster foretold by us Conks all along...

Obama winning this award right now is an embarassment. It makes no sense what so ever at this point, and makes a mockery of people who have done great things to earn this award.

On a side note, UNI has been awarded the FCS national title. Because, well, they have alot of potential. :coffee:

He was nominated 12 days into his Presidency. He did nothing 12 days into his Presidency. According to SNL, he has yet to do anything he has promised.

The NOBEL PEACE PRIZE IS A JOKE!

Couldn't they have waited to see what he actually accomplishes? If he does accomlish bringing peace to the ME, and aids in bringing the two Koreas closer, and reestablishes multilateral diplomacy on the world stage (of course, you can't have diplomacy with terrorist groups or failed states), then he may have been the most deserving in a couple of years. My biggest question is why the rush? Seems a little premature. It's apparently a fairly widespread opinion. All the commentators on both sides seem to be in agreement on that. To their credit, even this administration seems to feel this way, based on their tepid response to the award so far. What it does do is throw down the gauntlet. This is their way of saying to Obama, "you better get to work to earn this or you are going to look like even more of a failure." It's kind of a shitty thing to do to the guy, basically puts even more pressure and a brighter spotlight on him and his lack of results so far.
