They lose interest and the WS is almost anti-climatic when it should be the culmination.

The WS used to be about ready to start but we haven't even hit the LDS's yet. The WS starts the end of Oct, into Nov., week 8 of the NFL when things are getting more and more interesting. It used to be early in the NFL season and more people still cared about Baseball. (This also is affected by the NFL expansions which force an earlier start to the NFL season.)

I know, growing up, I barely thought about (NFL) football until after the WS.

----------------------------

Cutting out teams will make it more competitive again and get rid of a lot of dead weight but cutting Philly out isn't an option. It's one of the major sports markets and even thinking about it could cause riots. Remember, these are Philly fans you're talking about.
You may be right. But it seems to me that adding an extra round to the playoffs allows more teams into the playoffs and keeps more teams alive in playoff races during the regular season.

I wouldn't mind if baseball went back to only 4 playoff teams, but I think the current format brings in more revenue, so I don't think it will change any time soon.

It's also likely that the decision to play only night games in the WS is hurting viewership. If my team in not in the WS, and the game ends at midnight, there's a good chance I won't be watching.

Agreed. Not disbanded outright. Just moved so that they aren't playing in the New York City suburbs anymore.

Disband all of them, and distribute their assets to MLS teams. Baseball is a sport of the past. :coffee:

MLB will not go back to two division leagues even if they eliminated some teams. Why? Because regardless of what the ratings are MLB makes more money by having the LDS, they have no reason to back away from that.

They could even go back to two division leagues without contraction, since the AL still has the same amount of teams as it did before the structure changed... the only difference would be in the NL, the two divisions would each have 8 teams.

The better soloution to shorten the season would be to bring back scheduled doubleheaders. If teams played a doubleheader each weekend MLB could cut three weeks off the regualar season. The argument of course would be that teams would be over worked with pitchers, soloution, expand rosters to 26 allowing teams to have a 6th starter.

Interesting choices.

Charlotte - yes.

Vegas - not sure there is really the base there for it. Would need a dome-stadium.

Portland?

Nah, I think New York or Southern California need another one.

Disband the Yankees. 200 million dollar plus payroll, you should win the World Series every fucking year. If you can't do that with that kind of payroll, get the fuck out of MLB.

Nah, the real "farm" team is the Mutts of Flushing Meadow. Feckless management, a dumb mascot and a lousy color scheme. Disband them. 8-)

How about a Mexican team?

We have a Canadian team. Mexico has a Triple A league. Why not add a Mexican team?

Disease/health risk, disappearance/kidnapping of your star pitcher after he decided to go on an all night bender in Oaxaca/Mexico City or wherever this hypothetical team would be located during his day off, would make for an interesting Texas Rangers vs Mexico City Banditos rivalry....

And somehow that's different than Canada?

Screw Mexico City - put it where all the Americans move to do business in Mexico - Monterrey.

You don't run the risk of contracting a tropical disease in Canada nor an intestinal infection from drinking their water... you follow soccer I believe, look at what happened to the US soccer team after/during their game with Mexico. Also, I've never heard of players of coaches getting kidnapped in Canada.
