NBC earlier declared Bloomberg the winner, they have rescinded that as the results have gotten closer.

The bad news is the mayor got re-elected in a landslide. The good news is that he will have a whole new cast of city council members to deal with that hate his crooked ass.bobbythekidd wrote:I'll be voting all the incumbents off city council and the mayors office.

I'm pretty shocked you can be openly gay and attend Liberty. Are there many openly gay students there? Also, why would you want to attend Liberty? Just curious.ATrain wrote:

I think Democrats will make a big deal about New York 23 district but they lost two states that went for Obama and Obama was there for those guys that lost so it will hurt him and help the GOP. I still can't believe we won New Jersey

well not so much hurt Obama in Virginia. The young voters which won him Virginia just didnt show today. Had The GOP won and the young voters showed up in similar numbers to last November then yes it would have hurt himwildkyle wrote:I think Democrats will make a big deal about New York 23 district but they lost two states that went for Obama and Obama was there for those guys that lost so it will hurt him and help the GOP. in november of 2001 - the Dems won the governorship in both NJ and VA... in 2002 they got whupped... (and that was right after 9/11)wildkyle wrote:I think Democrats will make a big deal about New York 23 district but they lost two states that went for Obama and Obama was there for those guys that lost so it will hurt him and help the GOP. these elections just aren't the barometers that the pundits, short on shit to blab about - will be yammering on about. the dems winning in 23 was interesting - but it's importance is muted in that the district will be lost due to redistricting in 2011 (NY will likely lose 1 house seat)
the repubs winning the govs race in VA isn't really that surprising - Creigh Deeds was an AWFUL choice by the dems - (though i suspect they would have lost with any of their candidates) however - to read national implications in to a govs race is almost always a mistake - they are, and always will be, very local affairs.
and in NJ - a lot of the Dems stayed home... Corzine isn't the kind of guy who has a lot of passionate defenders...

Re: 11/3 Elections
"youth voter turnout" is the great myth of Obama '08... ESP in VA. VA was won by Obama's field operation in NoVa and the southwest of the state. (I had a lot of friends and former coworkers on the ground in VA - the race turned almost entirely in the DC burbs - not the college towns)UNHWildCats wrote:well not so much hurt Obama in Virginia. but as i said above - attributing a state race like governor to the national landscape is generally a mistake - voters for the most part don't link the two (which has always kind of baffled me as to why... but then i think i see the chess board differently than most)

WARNING....POLITICAL OPERATIVE ALERT!!!

You know if these races had been won by the Democrats, they would have been trumpting the "Power of Hope" and bowing down to Obama in an orgy of back patting....but the Republicans won, so these races "aren't barometers"...
Here in Virginia, they brought Bill Clinton in for some campaigning...and we were inundated with TV ads featuring him...the brought in Obama and we were flooded with ads right out of the 2008 presidential ad machine...
NOTHING...The democrat's poll numbers dropped...independents who supported Obama bailed out...
Now, you have to wonder what those conservative blue-dog democrats are thinking as they sit at home and watch what happened...House elections are now less than a year away...do they want to be on record voting for the Pelosi health care rip-off...over $1 Trillion dollars...
Do those blue-dogs want to keep their seats??? These elections mean a lot...they are a peak under the tent at the power of Obama now that his policies are out in the open, unlike the Presidential election where he gave a good speach but didn't give details...
You democratic operatives keep spinning..."These elections don't mean anything"...

The other time this happened was 1993 which led to the GOP taking back congress so if I was the Democrats I would be worried. I talking about the GOP winning New Jersey race.

When Mark Warner won Virginia and McGreevy won New Jersey in November of 2001... was it a referendum on Bush?

I voted for Warner that year...he was an excellent governor...and I wish Virginia would do away with it's one term and out rule for the governor...

Re: 11/3 Elections
Bush had 87% approval ratings in November of 2001. Remember, it was only a couple of months after 9/11. People didn't vote Democrat because they didn't like Bush.Col Hogan wrote: I'll only address Virginia...YES it was...especially when you consider the Bush White House political operatives tried everything they could to influence that election, and failed...
Could it be that Warner was simply a better candidate? Wouldn't that be why you voted for him? Or did you vote for him as a shot at Bush?Col Hogan wrote: I voted for Warner that year...he was an excellent governor...and I wish Virginia would do away with it's one term and out rule for the governor...
I voted Deeds... but, I believe McDonnell was a much better candidate. They also went head to head in 2005 and McDonnell won then as well.
Reading too much into these elections is just silly. 2010 will matter much more.
