Maine Lobster is an abomination unto God
Leviticus CLEARLY states that shellfish is an abomination.
Where are the Mormons/Catholics/Fundies with their campaign to outlaw shellfish.

We had this explained to us when we were 10 years old, and now it appears on an adult football message board.

Agreed. It is probably time for the apathetic people of this country (myself included) to take this on with some guts. The opposition to gay marriage is a lot stronger than the support and it is showing, because I can't fathom this country is so adamently against gay people.

It doesn't effect our daily lives so we don't do anything about it.
Its a shame what happened in Maine and what is happening all over this country.

I can. They're the evil children of Reagan and Falwell and Robertson and Hagee and Rove and Cheney and Dubya. A rogue's gallery of haters of things non-white and non-conformist.

WTF happened?
Glad I didn't bet money on this.
Glad I didn't bet money on this.
No...I bet you if every person voted on the gay marriage issue gay rights would win. The problem is probably that there aren't nearly as many folks willing to go to the ballot boxes to support SSM as there are folks willing to go to the ballots to oppose it. That'd be my guess. Well, I guess I sort of answered my own question, but I still thought they'd win in Maine.wideright82 wrote:\dbackjon wrote:Leviticus CLEARLY states that shellfish is an abomination.

That makes it, what, 31 states that have now rejected gay marriage when it was put to a popular vote? I'm still predicting that the SCOTUS -- for better or for worse -- will end up resolving this issue one way or another within the next 5 years.

I'm sure you're right. Thats the problem, voters who would support it just aren't into enough to actually get out there and vote. Opponents are energized and show up in greater numbers.Pwns wrote:WTF happened?![]()

An interesting thing looking at the vote results so far. Of all the questions on the ballot in Maine, only the one on same sex marriage shows the exact total votes as total ballots cast, some voters didnt vote on the tax issues and other things, but every single voter voted on the marriage issue.
On a side note... voters should not be allowed to deny rights to others.

Probably so...had to do it for the Negroes as well.....oh,what a Pandora's box the government has created by trying to milk a marriage license fee out of couples wanting to legally acknowledge their love & committment to one another....Ivytalk wrote:That makes it, what, 31 states that have now rejected gay marriage when it was put to a popular vote? As a conservative I don't want to be lumped into the bigot section of it. I would have voted to allow.

Why? Because you don't want to be lumped into the bigot section with Conservatives? Or because, as a conservative, you think the government has no business in the marriage business....clenz wrote:As a conservative I don't want to be lumped into the bigot section of it. I would have voted to allow.

I don't think the government should be telling people who can and can't get married.Appaholic wrote:Why? Because you don't want to be lumped into the bigot section with Conservatives? The sad part is that most people who oppose gay marriage probably don't even know any gay couples. Maybe if they did they wouldn't be so in the dark on this issue.

I think you got a point but the other thing is like has been said already. The opposition is organized and working toward an objective and the gay community is not. I can see why they are angry but at what point do they really organize to get the change they want and deserve?OL FU wrote:The sad part is that most people who oppose gay marriage probably don't even know any gay couples. One example that I heard about recently is that Pepsi has sponsored some organization that supports gay rights and since they did they have a "family values" type of group that started gathering signatures to boycott Pepsi products. They had accumulated over a 1/2 million signatures of those supporting the boycott. The gay community should have a similar organization that is telling their flock that they need to go out and buy a couple of cases of Pepsi products/week to show their strength against this kind of thing. As of a few weeks ago there was no such movement that I had heard of going on so if you are Pepsi and you are getting pressure from only the one side and not support on the other side then Pepsi ain't gonna feel like taking a stand on the issue in the future.
Like Cleets said the other side is organized and until the gay community gets it together they aren't gonna see progress.
