I thought they had the Velvet Mafia?

Also to OL FU, some of my fiances family in Iowa are firmly against gay marriage and the idea of being gay, even though they said they didn't know anyone who was gay when I asked them. My fiance didn't even know they felt that way until we were out there right after they has passed the gay marriage bill there. Wait til they come to our wedding and meet a few of my cousins and their significant others

All the shellfish ARE anabomination! ESPECIALLY the lobsters! I am on a mission to be God's tool in wiping them of the Earth. I shall vow to condemn them all to a horrible death, by digestion!

I think this should run deeper than just the gay community. This is a pretty basic human/civil rights issue. This is an issue anyone, gay, straight, or otherwise, that believes human and/or civil rights are worth protecting should be in support of.

I love our constitution, and just have a real hard time thinking that our founding fathers didn't intend for all that stuff to apply to everyone equally. I think they ment it when they said that all men are created equal stuff.

It starts with each one of us not being afraid to stand up what you believe is right. I work with a bunch of bible thumpers. When they get off on their gay bashing tangents I'm pretty blunt about how offended I am by that way of thinking and the conversation. I've had in depth conversations with a couple of them on the side, they're starting to come around.

Fighting back is sure tougher than just allowing someone to repeatedly kick you in the nuts. But if you want to stop being kicked in the nuts, you have to fight back.

I love our constitution too and I love your idealism regarding it. But if there is one thing that was pretty clear in our original consitution, they didn't think all men were created equal.

In the constitution didn't even say it. ;)

Sure it should be and we may support it but the fact of the matter is that it is not as personal to me as it is to a gay person. If they put up something to rally behind then I'll support it but it ain't up to me to lead the charge. It is up to those most affected to lead the fight.

The fact of the matter is that we don't all get fully invested in every injustice or cause that we support.

I know some gay couples, both fudge packers and rug munchers. They give me the creeps, except for the feminine rug munchers. After all, who doesn't love hot lesbians? Even though they creep me out, I wouldn't deny them the right to marriage. I would, however, be happy to deny the government the authority to regulate marriage.

I understand your point, but when it comes to the consitution it says what it says, not what we want it to say.

No, the Catholic Church does. I am DONE with Catholicism. When I get back to Maine, I will be exploring other churches that are more inclusive and humane. The Catholic Church is becoming MORE intolerant and hateful (much like the Republican Party). I knew that this guy was bad news.......

It was still nice to see that 47% (267,000+) still supported the right of gays to marry. Can you imagine what this number would have been 10 or 20 years ago? I don't think that any state with the possible exception of Massachusetts would come as close to supporting this.

Agreed. It is probably time for the apathetic people of this country (myself included) to take this on with some guts. The opposition to gay marriage is a lot stronger than the support and it is showing, because I can't fathom this country is so adamently against gay people.

I can. They're the evil children of Reagan and Falwell and Robertson and Hagee and Rove and Cheney and Dubya. A rogue's gallery of haters of things non-white and non-conformist.

Think how much better off the world would be if Chapman had mised and Hinckley hadn't. Oh, for what might have been.

I don't think the government should be telling people who can and can't get married.
Nothing else really needs to be said, but I will... haha.

If two consenting individuals want to get married, the state shouldn't have any say in that. The role of the government is to provide for the common defense, and promote the general welfare and such... not to restrict the rights of those in a non-threatening minority (as it has done with blacks, women, gays, etc.).

What's funny is that if cs is a sampling of the US, we all pretty much agree with this. That means the US ingeneral agrees. The problem is those that VOTE don't agree with this.

This is why the majority cannot be trusted with civil rights. If the majority had its way, the South would still be segregated and women would still not be able to vote.

YES! Death by boiling and/or steaming, then spiced, preferably in the eyes, before the ultimate purging via digestion. They are ABOMINIABLE! Deliciously, deliciously ABOMIDABLE.
