The Most Disgusting Thing Ever
For 2010 the Yankees already have $166 million committed in payroll.

But Yankee fans will tell you that has nothing to do with them winning.UNHWildCats wrote:For 2010 the Yankees already have $166 million committed in payroll.

It'll get really disgusting when the core of the Phillies' lineup starts getting poached by Satan's minions in a few years.

Re: The Most Disgusting Thing Ever
Boston has 10 players under contract for 2010 totaling $82.385 million. They have another 10 guys who are almost assuredly on the opening day roster who are renewable or arbitration eligible, these 10 players should come out to around a total of $25 million or so with Papelbon costing the most.
That means 20 players just under $108 million total.
Things to take care of.
Jason Bay or another LF (cost shouldn't exceed $15 million)
A catcher. Regardless of who it shouldn't cost more then $3 million, that's the most I can see them giving Varitek and if its not him it will be some young guy making under $1 million whether its Kottaras or a top prospect acquired elsewhere.
A SS, Alex Gonzalez could be back or they could sign a cheap insurance policy and go with Jed Lowrie as the starter. The recent talk had Boston interested in Stephen Drew via a trade. The most we will see added here would be if Gonzalez is re-signed and that wont exceed $5 million.
Then its going to be a SP and a RP. Total expected here shouldnt exceed $10 million.
In all Boston can probably pencil in about $141 million for its 25 man roster.... $25 million less then the Yankees are paying for the 10 players currently under contract.

Don't blame the Yankees though, they are doing what every other team wishes it could do. The problem lies with MLB's economic model.
Re: The Most Disgusting Thing Ever
So what, they pay their luxary taxes...until MLB changes the Salary rules, YOU CANT BITCH, the Yanks are following the rules as stated by MLB...and because of the Yanks, Teams like the Brewers, Royals, Rays, A's get a shitload of extra cash from the Yankees and others...

Re: The Most Disgusting Thing Ever
Anybody who has not read "Money Ball" a really suggest it...
it's a great story and a great read... it goes fast and is very informative
You pretty much stop blaming the Yankees for how they behave...
They have truck loads of money to burn and it's much easier to by players than develop them
The Yankees were actually fairly good at player development in the early 90's but gave it up because it's a constant battle (it's work) and it's just faster & easier to buy what you need - no matter the cost...
It's a great book

The Phillies would have won if only they had Tug McGraw coming out of the pen.

I'd rather have a dead Tug McGraw than a live Brad Lidge!SuperHornet wrote:The Phillies would have won if only they had Tug McGraw coming out of the pen.
