No problem with background checks, it's not uncommon for any job. Just this guy was in the military before there would have been any need to investigate their background. Also, if the person is an American citizen then you would have to investigate all Americans who want to serve our country as you can't discriminate based on religion in this country.

..after hearing about the shootings at Ft. Hood and the other incidents in Iraq, etc. I am really starting to distrust Arabs or Americans who are of Arab decent. I know it is wrong but if I was in the military I would be very nervous about being around these people becuase you never know if they are going to go off in the name of "alla". DJ, the Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, and Scientologist are not preaching violent or even non-violent subjugation of those who do not believe as they do.

When will people realize that violent acts aren't a result of a person's skin color or nationality? It's a belief system, a way of thinking, a doctrine. Couple that with close-mindedness, misunderstanding and hate, and you have a recipe for violence similar to what transpired at Fort Hood.

What's interesting is that Hasan was a military Psychiatrist (and had been for a quite a while). His job was to help others in dealing with the atrocities of combat and their issues. Although there are a lot of unknowns at this point, it's obvious that Hasan had his own mental issues that went either unnoticed or untreated by himself and others in his field.
