Appalachian State @ Richmond Game Thread
Re: Appalachian State @ Richmond Game Thread
Thia is the best game of the remaining 4. Should be a fun one to watch, hopefully Edwards is able to run by next week.
Re: Appalachian State @ Richmond Game Thread
Well, all those who think App's recent streak deserves an * due to playing all the playoff games at home will get their answer next week.

Should be a great game. Hopefully AE will be running a lot more and we'll need another big game from Quick. If App can get some pressure on Ward and can cause some turnovers I think we've got a great shot to advance.

My sister is a Richmond alum, so with my Hen's laying and egg this year I have to pull for the Spiders through the playoffs. 24-17 Spidahs.

Richmond beat Elon 16-13. App beat Elon 27-10. Richmond is in trouble. If both teams play the way they played in their respective games against Elon, App will win big. Hopefully Armanti Edwards is healthy, because I'd hate to see such a great player not be able to play his best in the final games of his senior season.

Re: Appalachian State @ Richmond Game Thread
According to the post game comments, Edwards was at about 75% yesterday. With another week of practice he'll be near 90% if not better. Ward didn't have a great game throwing the ball last year against us: 10/21 121 yards but did have a solid game on the ground with 16 carries for 91 yards and a score. From what I've read, Ward struggled again throwing the ball yesterday but had a big game running the ball. If we can contain Ward and force him to beat us with his arm I like our chances. Bottom line is the game will come down to turnovers, App's ability to stop 3rd down conversions, and what each does in the red zone. 4 FOR MOORE.

Really hoping App can pull this one off, and that we can take care of business against SFA. Can you say Griz vs App State in prime time?

Re: Appalachian State @ Richmond Game Thread
This will be an interesting match...
Richmond has made a habit of playing close games all year (a notable exception being the blow-out win over UMass...
)
But they won...that's the key, they won...
Edwards, not being 100%, impacts ASU, but they are still a great squad...
I'm giving a three point edge to the home team...because it's really going to be a close one...

Well not only that Transitive Property, but after watching these teams play, I wasn't impressed by Richmond, but when App came to Elon (I realize not the most hostile environment) I left the game feeling lucky that the score was only 27-10. I left yesterday's Elon @ Richmond game thinking how didn't we win or at least force OT.clenz wrote:Ah yes, the good ol' team A beat team C by more than team B beat team C so team A will kill team B.JConnolly wrote:Richmond beat Elon 16-13. I talked to one of the ASU DB's at breakfast this morning and he said AE will be fine for Richmond. This should be a great game.

Re: Appalachian State @ Richmond Game Thread
The Elon game really can't be used as a barometer for how well App will do against Richmond. We were on for that one, and I think it's safe to say now that Elon wasn't. App isn't that much better than Elon, if they're better than them at all. That might sound odd considering the result of the head-to-head, but there's that much variance between App's ebb and flow. When they're on, they have an upside that very few teams can match. But as we've seen from this team all season long, their off-games occur all too frequently, and when they're off they are flat and extremely beatable.
If Armanti is healthier and gets the green light from the coaching staff, it might be a toss-up. Too many ifs to be confident about App's chances, but I can't bet against a team that typically gets up for big games, and I can't bet against Armanti, even if he isn't a hundred percent.
On the plus side, Bench's Traveling Circus will be making the trip from Hickville to Tickville, and we're bringing our efficacious road game rituals with us, those dark methods and evil superstitions of yore. The occult isn't something for amateurs to trifle with carelessly, but I assure you we are professionals, and to lessen the risk it places on our mortal souls we merely dabble

Ward has thrown 5 INTs and 0 TDs his last 2 games, but i think he will bounce back knowing what this game means
and red zone will be huge, as we got 0 TDs in 4 Red Zone trips

Re: Appalachian State @ Richmond Game Thread
After the ECU game, bench and I stopped in Durham to watch the UR-Duke game. Looking back at that game, a couple things stand out. Duke was unable to get much of a run game going. That allowed the Spiders to pin their ears back and get after the QB. If AE does not have the "green light", or is inaffective in the run game it could be a sad day for the Mountaineers. The zone play turns into a dive play with one back, which is super easy to read. If AE isn't wide open throttle, App would be wise to run more two back sets with a little misdirection, or some motion run plays out of the single back and empty sets. We have to get the run game going if we want to go to the semis.
Offensively, UR missed several opportunities when they were in scoring posistion. The Spider O looked unstoppable between the 20's, and clumsy inside the red zone. Duke was able to hang on a little bit there because the Spiders couldn't finish them off. Duke had absolutly no fight in them that night, UR kept hitting the big play button, was in control of every aspect of the game, but didn't quite put the Dukies away until late.
I was very impressed with Ricmond's team speed on D, and their special teams. The Spider O is a little suspect IMHO, and may not be able to keep up in a shoot out. A high scoring, up tempo game is in our favor, while a ball control slow down type game would be to our disadvantage.
Here's to safe travels to all, and a hell of a good ballgame!

I would be ok with that. I've wanted revenge since 2000!Grizalltheway wrote:Really hoping App can pull this one off, and that we can take care of business against SFA. Can you say Griz vs App State in prime time?
But, first things first, Richmond. I did not want this matchup. Typically, you don't want to play a team you've beaten earlier in the season again...but, I would have rather been in Boone against Elon, than travelling to Richmond. With that said, it will show us how good our team is. If we can escape with a win at Richmond, it may be on to Montana, so the Apps may have to do it the hard way. So be it, go APPS!
