Western Carolina Football, Dennis Wagner Announce Additional Signees for 2008 Season
June 16, 2008
Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina first-year head football coach Dennis Wagner today released the signing of nine additional student-athletes to National Letters of Intent (NLI) to play for the Catamounts in 2008. The list includes four incoming freshmen from high school, three junior college players and two NCAA Division I transfers. In addition to 21 players he inked around National Signing day back in February, Wagner and the Catamounts have 30 new faces signed to NLIs. He anticipates the addition of a few walk-ons when camp opens in early-August.

Wagner keeping the Cats in Cullowhee for the summer
CULLOWHEE – Pampering players doesn’t seem to be part of Dennis Wagner’s plan for reviving Western Carolina’s football program.
If the 6 a.m. start time for spring workouts didn’t make that clear, the removal of a television set in the coach’s lobby probably got the word out. But the first-year coach is just getting started.
Wagner believes that one of the most important ingredients to snapping a 15-game Southern Conference drought, which stretches back to the 2005 season, is more work over the summertime.
To that end, he’s got roughly 50 players on campus for the first summer session and expects 15 more for the second session.
“A lot of people see the summer as a chance to catch up,” Wagner said. “I think it’s a chance to get ahead.”

6 AM reveille isn't pampering? Give me a break. Get the kids up at 4 or 5 on normal days or perhaps at 2 for a 10 mile hike and see how they like that....
