What I thought when this was announced and what was confirmed by the CAA conference call today is the following:
I don't think the CAA will be expanding anytime soon, and will only expand if some teams move to FBS.
Albany has two hopes:
1. Northern teams break off; or
2. Northeastern or Hofstra leave the CAA for all-sports and the CAA wants a full-sport member with football.
A break off is more likely and the possiblitiy of that was even admitted by CAA Commish Yeager. Travel costs will be much higher for the CAA North teams now.

Sorry for Hofstra. I remember a few years when they had some really good teams. I agree about Uncle Buck. I never met the man but from what he posted I could see that he was a good supporter of the program. I am pretty sure he was also a former player.

We’re certainly interested in playing at the highest possible level for us.”
The key to that comment is “for us.” The highest possible level for URI may be lower than the highest possible level for teams in the CAA South that have greater resources and where interest in college football is more intense.
Given that context, and economic factors such as travel costs, the re-birth of the Yankee Conference makes sense. The conference could consist of the original charter members URI, UMass, UNH and Maine, plus Albany, Stony Brook and Fordham.
Forming such a league would be relatively easy. Albany is an affiliate of the Northeast Conference, Stony Brook of the Big South and Fordham of the Patriot League. Albany and Stony Brook are in the America East in other sports, Fordham in the Atlantic 10. This seven-team conference would allow for six league games and bus trips to all league away games and would permit expansion.
Also, Yeager did a lot of hinting today about the breakup. Is it possible that 2011 we see the new Yankee?
Is this the perfect time to make such a move? Yeager said if they could get eight league games, “then maybe that answer is yes.”
Hate to hear it for Hofstra. Hopefully the guys that want to keep playing will be able to find a place to transfer. Attendance was terrible from what I've read about the situation.

4 bids out of 10 teams is still possible. If the top 4 beat the crap out of the other 6 and split with each other you could still have 4 teams with 9 or more wins. That is unlikely, but you probably only need 8-3 to make the playoffs and 4 teams accomplishing that could still happen.
I do think 5 bids out of 10 is out of the question.
Keep in mind, all CAA teams play an FBS school. In light of the potentially tougher conference schedule, they may choose to drop the FBS in lieu of a more "winable" game.

I'm not sure how conference games affect the conference GPI since one team wins and one losses. I do know that OOC losses bring the GPI down, and dropping teams that lose OOC games will help the conference GPI.
Northeastern was 0-3 OOC, Hofstra was 2-1.

Oh, and BTW, there are years teams can play 12 games, so it's not impossible or not allowed. We played 12 in 2008 and can again in 2012 or 13.
Round robin is when every one plays every one else. Your conference has already been using a round robin schedule.
The CAA still won't be playing a true round robin unless it drops to 9 teams or they play a 9 game conference schedule.
I never considered playing your whole conference a round robin. Just normal. I suppose, thinking on it, it's a very large one. I was thinking more along the lines of the baseball NCAA's. In any case, it's not rocket science.
