Stephen F. Austin @ Montana Game Thread
Re: Stephen F. Austin @ Montana Game Thread
Here are my predictions... SFA wins 38-35 on a game winning field goal. I think SFA will take a lead into halftime and then Montana will come back and tie the game with about 1:30 left in the 4th and sfa drives down the field and gets into field goal range and kicks a 42 yard field goal for the win.
or...
SFA will have some early turnovers and Montana will jump out to a 14-17 point lead and SFA will play from behind rest of the game lose 52 to 35.
I just hope it doesn't turn into last time we played there.

Hopefully the video board operator will sneak some highlights of that game in somewhere. A little "motivation" for our guests.sfajack05 wrote:Here are my predictions... I think you guys probably have all the motivation you need.
Hopefully our two big receivers (Rhea and Parks) who sat out saturday will be able to play this week. We need all the play makers we can get to help this weekend.

Re: Stephen F. Austin @ Montana Game Thread
I am not sure if anyone has posted this, but these are the two highest scoring offenses in the FCS. As well, even though the score last weekend, our defense is actually much better than the score indicates, SDSU had a pretty short field the whole entire first half, and scored a touchdown on a blocked punt..It wasn't really the Defenses fault whatsoever. Refer to AZGRIZ Anatomy of A Trackmeet for further explanation.
Lets take a look at the defensive stats for last weekends games:
Montana VS. SDSU Montana gave up 324 total yards 198 Passing 126 Rushing
SFA VS. EWU SFA Gave up 595 total yards, 461 passing, and 134 rushing.
Montana is a much better defensive team than the SDSU game indicated, and I would imagine they will be even better this week.

Griz are a balanced offense, with 29 passing TD's and 24 rushing TD's. Pick your poison---either Reynolds or Mariani. SFA is heavily weighted towards the passing side, with 43 TD passes and only 14 rushing TD's. SFA averages 46 pass attempts per game, and completes passes at a 68% clip. If we can stop the run without stacking the box, SFA should be in for a long afternoon.

This will be an outstanding game featuring two exceptional FCS teams. It's gonna be a barn burner.

Re: Stephen F. Austin @ Montana Game Thread
I don't think SFA's run game will have much to do with the outcome of the game, unless SFA gets out to a lead and tries to burn some clock (which they are terrible at doing). Don't get caught up in SFA's rushing stats from the EWU game, most of that came off a few long runs. Otherwise, they were getting about 2 yard per carry. SFA's run game is basically their WR screen game. Our running backs are servicable, but not really a threat, and usually get big gains when the opposing defenses are selling out on the pass.AZGrizFan wrote:Griz are a balanced offense, with 29 passing TD's and 24 rushing TD's. SFA will throw it 50+ times in this game, and maybe run it about 20 times. That's their game. If Montana can stop their screens, and force Moses into multiple picks (happens a lot), then Montana should win this comfortably.
SFA is pretty solid against the run. They are worse against the pass. They can be porous against the run as well, especially the option for some reason. Option teams gashed us big this year.
I see this game being more about composure and experience in a big time playoff atmosphere, and I don't know if SFA will be ready for 20000+ fans that are hostile. Though I hope for much different, I forsee SFA playing catch up the whole game, and coming up about 2 touchdowns short. They'll have to be a lot less mistake prone to win this game.

Like I said, if Montana can stop the run without stacking the box, it's gonna be a long afternoon for the Lumberjacks. And don't feel bad about the option teams....they gash EVERYBODY who's not used to playing them.kiss my axe wrote: I don't think SFA's run game will have much to do with the outcome of the game, unless SFA gets out to a lead and tries to burn some clock (which they are terrible at doing). I cant lie i think its quite entertaining to listen to all these SFA fans get on here and just talk shit...funny how none of yall where on here at the beginning of the year
. Anyways the point is you guys will be going to Washington Grizzly Stadium which quite simply is one of if not the hardest place to play in the FCS and come away with a win. The Griz need to get smart and just start Selle the whole game and they will be fine. SFA is a good team no doubt but they are not good enough to win in Missoula.

Don't expect Montana to have 5 turnovers. Don't expect SFA to score 24 points on a short field.SFA Fan!!! wrote:South Dakota State Almost Went In There And Beat, What Makes You Think SFA Cannot? I'd say that score is just about right.

Re: Stephen F. Austin @ Montana Game Thread
If Montana threw the ball 50 times a game, we'd have receivers with gaudy numbers like SFA does. That doesn't mean their receivers are better...they just get more chances.Mvemjsunpx wrote:Here's my assessment of the matchups & my pick for the game:
