I don't have a problem with it. They have no coach now, and Clausen and Golden Tate are both going to the NFL. There is no way that this would help them next year. It would be a disaster.

Who cares? ND would get creamed by Montana.

That's likely true, too. But given that they didn't make the playoffs, saying that THEY would beat ND is about as credible as my saying that Sacred City would beat them.

Of course, I'd dearly love the chance to try. Prove the Big Cat right! LOL.

I agree with this, the bowl weeks usually do help a lot for next season, but with ND getting a new coach and probably having a drastically different looking offense next year (at least in terms of personnel) I don't see how much they can gain out of it. Instead of having an interim coach practicing with them for a bowl game they can focus on getting their new head coach in place and once he's there he can focus on recruiting instead of playing in the GMAC Bowl or the Little Caesers Something Bowl.

But they won 7 games and had an almost-win (I love that....'almost-win' ) at Iowa, so in the eyes of UNI fans, they are better than any team in the land with only 6 wins. :coffee:

I'm pretty sure teams can still practice if they aren't in a bowl...

Depends on how you define "practice." A full-on Thursday nutcracker, no way. But S&C and occasional classroom stuff, definitely. At both UOP and Sac, we did all sorts of S&C stuff through Dec into Jan. And the spring semester at Sac featured mandatory football theory classes (officially open to the entire student body for coaching wannabes) that served to install the offense and defense in preparation for spring ball. I wouldn't be surprised if most if not all schools did the same.

I agree.
Me too. I also have a problem with any .500 team that goes to a bowl, 6 wins or not.

Yes. If one accepts the WAC and MWC as "B(C)$", then Montana is 13-16 vs. current B(C)$ schools since 1990. And even if one does NOT, Montana has wins vs. current Pac-10 teams in 1947, 1990, and 1996 and a Pac-10 (current teams) tie in 1952.

WAC and MWC are not BCS conferences, they do not have an autobid to a BCS bowl.

The Pac-10 wins (not to mention the tie) were ALWAYS D-I (or at least "large college" before the divisions were set in the '70s). Most of the other wins were FCS at the time of the wins, and were even in the Big Sky. However, there is one current FBS school that hasn't beaten Montana since 1999.

2003 - Idaho - finished 3-9, outscored by 66 points.
2002 - Idaho - finished 2-10, outscored by 143 points
2001 - Idaho - finished 1-10, outscored by 182 points
2000 - Idaho -finished 5-6 but were outscored by 56 points that year. I'll give the Griz this one
1996 - Oregon State - finished 2-9 and were outscored by 172 points
1994 - North Texas - was still 1AA this year so they don't count.
1990 - Oregon State - finished 1-10, outscored by 219 points

Idaho was coached by Tom Cable during those years, and finished with a 31% win percentage. I also have a hard time calling Idaho an FBS school...I get they are technically an FBS school, but they are/were an FCS team, but that may have changed with this year.

Oregon state had no more than 5 wins between 1977 and 1999. They won a total of 67 games in that time span. The Oregon State we know is far from what they were. Before Dennis Erickson and Mike Riley that program was nothing. I understand they were still a PAC10 team, but I'm just not overly impressed.

That gives the FBS teams that Montana has beat a totoal win % of 26% in the years they played them.

BCS is not the same as FBS.
And technically, the BCS wasn't formed until 1998.
So the answer is NO.

But I wasn't aware of the wins over Oregon State. (still not BCS, as it was pre-'98, but anyway)

Lets be honest, beating non BCS schools is nothing to brag about. Essentially, they have a very similar competition level to FCS.

Beating BCS schools is a real great accomplishment, however.
