[quote="SeattleGriz"]In the article, it states that Appalachians defense has been more tested?quote]

After watching the last game I don't know how that could be.... Mariani is a freak and IMO a top ten receiver in any division of college football.... Oh yeah and I guess The Griz have a few other decent players on offense to 'test' AP.

Mariani is very good. But, he isn't the best receiver we have played this year... maybe even the third best.

He's be best return man, though... by far. This is what really scares me.

I have to think coach Moore would be smart enough to kick away from him (but I hope he doesn't.)

And this is why it scares me. :x Jerry always just kicks it deep. :ohno: I have a feeling Mariani will burn us once... and I really hope it's just once.

SCSU is also a top 5 total defense, according to the NCAA site. UM is at #50.

And AE was unable to run. He tried a couple of times and it was painful to watch.

He is a fine passer, but our offense takes a big hit when the threat of him running is not there. He looked much better against Richmond and hopefully will be close to 100% Saturday.

Don't underestimate Mariani.

Without him, Montana finishes the regular season with several losses. They would have lost to NAU without him. All that game, I kept thinking - if we can stop him from a big play. We did, most of the game. The one time we didn't - game changer.

He may not be the best physical reciever you have faced, but I can guarantee he is the best YAC reciever you will have faced.

IF NAU played in the MEAC, they'd be top 5 defense :coffee:

Troof, but Paulson is a great DC, and I think now that this defense is really gelling I think he'll be able to come up with something to at least contain them on O, if not shut them down. And, like I said in another thread, I like our chances to be able to control the line of scrimmage on offense and keep Armanti where we know he can't hurt us.
Where would that be? Just out of a lack of knowledge of Montana's D (other than what I've read the past couple of days).

All I remember was how Richmond's Rogers, was supposed to shut down Mariani in last years championship game because he was "all american" and how many yards did Mariani have? 7 receptions for 172 yards.

Should be a great game.

True, and I'm ok with that, as long as the outcome is the same for Montana. :thumb: Did he have any touchdowns?

If we can keep Edwards from having 2-3 rushing TD's, I like our chances. In the past 4 games he has only 2 TD passes, with 5 INT's. Regarding Mariani:

Mariani - 32 receiving TD's, Mariani had 12 of them
Reynolds - 27 rushing TD's, Reynolds had 20 of them.

Remember the names Steve Phaler, Dan Beaudin, and Jabin Zambrano.

Ok. Just be careful wishing for AE to beat you passing. He's better than he gets credit for in that regard (his stats though would be better if he could have played against West Carolina ). Though, clearly, our O runs better with him being a threat to run. Remember the names Devon Moore, Ben Jorden, and Matt Cline. ;)

Sounds like Montana has a rather balanced attack. If it is snowing Saturday, how will that impact the passing game for both sides? In 2000, it looked like it didn't impede it too much. But, the game is played differently by both teams now.

Yeah, I wouldn't base much on 2000. :kisswink:
