That's what you're reduced to when you're a fan of a team that's schitzophrenic. I'm telling you it must absolutely SUCK to be a fan of a CAA team and have NO idea from year to year what you're going to have in your team....ASUMountaineer wrote: Great post. Another fan of a team that sucks rooting for his conference. So, what you're saying is the CAA will finally equal the amount of titles won by Appalachian State, or half the titles won by Georgia Southern...gotcha. Appalachian doesn't have to ride the coat tails of the Michigan win, ASU just beat Richmond and is 9-2 in the playoffs against CAA competition. What else you got?

Armanti's career isn't over. His legacy is riding on how he does tomorrow and (hopefully) in the championship game.Mvemjsunpx wrote:Unless your last name is McNair, Rice, or Dickenson, you're not the best player in the history of FCS.ASUchamps wrote:Armanti Edwards is the best player in the history of FCS/Div. 1-AA football. If he wins tomorrow he'll have as many playoff wins as any QB in FCS history. If he wins another championship he'll have more championships than any other QB. Comparing him to Jerry Rice or Steve McNair is entirely subjective... but, if he wins the championships he'd be the best ever imo.
And Dave Dickenson in the same conversaion with McNair, Rice, and Edwards?! No fucking way.

Yes way. He has had almost as much success in Pro football as Mcnair or Rice. League MVP and Grey Cup MVP. He is up there, maybe not the same level, but he is an ELITE player. If AE has the accolades that those three do after a while, he will be there. He has to make it in the pros. I think that is the measure here.

I don't give a shit what they did as a pro... I'm talking about the best I-AA/FCS careers of all time.GrizMonster wrote:

I'm not saying Armanti is definitely the best at this point. But he has a chance in the next couple of weeks to certainly make a strong, strong case.

Quarterbacks don't win championships, teams do. The notion that Edwards alone won those playoff games is absurd; he's just one guy out of many. Armanti won titles because he was on the best team, not necessarily because he may have been the best player. McNair & Rice never really had the chance to win titles because they played on weaker SWAC teams. Edwards is an excellent player, but—from what I've seen—he doesn't quite have the overall ability of Jerry Rice (best receiver of all time), Steve McNair (all-time leader in FCS offense), or Dave Dickenson (among the best FCS QBs in multiple efficiency statisitics despite throwing the ball most every down; highest rated passer in the history of the CFL).Skjellyfetti wrote: Armanti's career isn't over. The argument works for the Griz, too. A lot of UM fans seem to think John Edwards was an awesome QB just because he won a lot of games (and a title) as a starting QB. Look at the stats, though, & you'll see he wasn't much better than average. Cole Bergquist, Drew Miller, Brian Ah Yat, Craig Ochs, & Andrew Selle were/are all better than Edwards, it's just that their teams didn't get quite get the job done while Edwards's team (mostly his defense) did. Now, of course, Armanti Edwards is a lot better than John Edwards, but to heavily judge a QB's ability on how many titles he won is stupid.

Ok. Nevermind I do not feel like arguing this. I should have known better than to post that on a Big Sky board. Edwards would clearly be the 7th best quarterback in Montana history and isn't even top 50 in FCS/I-AA history. My apologies.

AE is up there with any QB in FCS history. He has proven that on the field with his numbers and rings. No need to get into a pissing contest about who is better because it is all subjective anyway. Doesn't matter who was better than who but they all are in the conversation.

I think you're reading a little more into this simple lack of clarification than what was intended. I'm positive that what Mvemjsunpx meant was that Bergquist, Miller, Ah Yat, Ochs, and Selle were/are all better than John Edwards, not Armanti. John Edwards is given a lot of credit for leading the Griz to their second title, but many contend (with justification) that the team won more in 2001 with a great running game and defense than through great QB play.Skjellyfetti wrote:Mvemjsunpx wrote:Cole Bergquist, Drew Miller, Brian Ah Yat, Craig Ochs, & Andrew Selle were/are all better than Edwards

Simple matter of 'Edwards Confusion'. Pretty interesting--two QBs from different teams that led their teams to the FCS/I-AA title--and had the same surname.

To add to the confusing coincidences: not only do Armanti Edwards & John Edwards (two title-winning FCS QBs) share the same last name, John Edwards shares the same name as Senator John Edwards, who represented the state that Armanti Edwards plays football in.

In college, or are we talking about professional career?dbackjon wrote:Agreed. David Dickensin is not nearly as good a QB as AE
While I know Armanti is still in college, that is my point. Everyone likes to compare two different offensive systems with who is the best QB. Is Armanti going to play pro ball running the spread?
Hate to be such a tool, but the spread is a college offense that is designed to take advantage of the disparity in speed and defensive breakdown associated in college football. A winning formula at the collegiate level, and I agree with running a system that wins games. I am not saying a team has to look "pro".
Why don't they run the spread in the NFL full time? Because they know the QB would be dead after a couple of games.
Now, with all that being said, I think Armanti has impacted FCS ball the last couple years greater than anyone else. I just don't think everyone is comparing apples to apples. It's like asking who is the better sprinter? the 100meter guy or the 400 meter guy. Similar, but not the same.

Dickenson was a very good college QB. He has not had the impact of AE though. Montanans VASTLY overrate him in the grand scheme of FCS players.grizband wrote:stop it, your killing medbackjon wrote:Agreed. David Dickensin is not nearly as good a QB as AE

In one season. And that's not counting his rushing yards or rushing touchdowns.
Get back to me when Armanti puts up that kind of single-season stats. Add in his rushing totals, if you'd like--it won't matter.
I'll wait...but I'll be waiting from now to eternity, because he won't ever do it.
Dickenson is one of the all-time greats. So is Armanti. Period.
