ESPN Announcers

Post by bodoyle »

I posted this on "that other board" and forgot to post here.

I didn't see this posted, sorry if it has been and I missed it.

Was it just me, or did anyone else think they were blowing the weather conditions way out of proportion? They made a Winter Storm Warning sound like the end of the damn Universe. They said the winds were gusting at 30 and expecting 6" of snow by tomorrow afternoon. Call me crazy, but 1) it's Winter, and 2) it's Montana.

I wonder what the announcers would have thought of Chicago's weather earlier this week when we had 65mph winds and 9" of snow.

Way to sound like idiots yet again ESPN!

To clarify, I am not criticizing the way they called the game. I didn't have a problem with that at all. I have a problem when they make 6" of snow sound like the blizzard to end all blizzards. If this was in Myrtle Beach or some Southern city and there was 6" of snow coming, ok fine, but it's freaking Montana!

That's like during tosay's Bears game they make it sound like the world is ending b/c it will be windy in the Windy City

Fuckin' A!!

Keep an eye on this guy fella's...he's been a friend of mine for longer than either of us cares to remember. :D

As he said. They announcers were trying to "paint the picture" for all that weren't there. If you were there then you would know that it was not blown out of proportion. You can pick on the dramatization all you want but if you had been there (like they were) you would know that it was warranted. "The frozen tundra" horseshit has got to go though.

I was at the game and it WAS blizzard like. I drove back to Billings AFTER the game and the drive was very blizzard like. To the poster of the thread, snowstorms don't have to accumulate much snow to be classified as one. Blizzards are more about cold temperatures AND low visibility due to blowing snow. And in that case it was a blizzard in Missoula Sat night. Visibility was ****.

That looked like nothing. Shit, earlier this past week I couldn't see more than 20 feet out my house and got 15 inches of snow.

Every time there is a chance of snow, the local weather makes it sound like the storm of the century.

Years ago, one of the Philly TV stations decided to give the winter storms names like they do with hurricanes.

The guys who did the Nova/W&M game were 10000 times better.

Brock Huard was actually pretty knowledgeable about FCS football.

Those are the guys that are doing the championship game.

You and PG are a couple of real troopers. I felt you overdid on the manliness a little when you didn't at least get in the vehicles for a little warmup. Just stood out there drinkiing and tailgating for at least another hour after the game.

It was cold as a motherfucker out there on Saturday.

BTW, there ain't one of you ficlers ta;lomg abpit wjat smpw upi saw pitsode your window or how cold and blizzardy it was that spent 6 hrs. out in the shit so your perspective on it is invalid. It was a witches tit out there and 24,207 fans didn't let that stop them. You go ahead and let me know when you sit through a game like that instead of commenting about what you saw on TV or out your fucking window. :thumb:

And how many games did your team play in that weather? For that matter, how many games have they ever played in that weather? :coffee:

Pre dome there was all sorts of games in that kind of shitty weather.

You can be "all manly" if you really want, but the dome is a glorious thing when it is freezing cold out. Again, ask UD fans that were in in 2007 if they wanted to play in that. I think we got 4 inches of ice that day and a couple inches of snow, temps well below 0, winds over 40 MPH...

It looked like a blizzard. It didn't look as bad as the one that went through Iowa, but I know how bad blizzards, even minor blizzards, can be

I wasn't at the game, so I can't say for sure what the conditions really felt like, but it did seem like the announcers were playing it up quite a bit. That wasn't the only thing they repeated ad nauseum though. If I woulda taken a shot every time they mentioned that Chase Reynolds played 8 man football in high school, well, I wouldn't have been conscious for the final two drives  .

It's annoying when somebody is telling you shit you already know over and over. I think that if you weren't a member of the fan boards and already knew all of this stuff better than the guys telling it to you it would not have been as annoying.

Temp, elevation, 8-man, Hell's Gate, the stadium, the snow....between those subjects I think that was 95% of the broadcast
