NAU QBs steal the show at fall scrimmage

First, it was Michael Herrick. Then, it was Corey Slater, and finally it was Lance Kriesien.

One by one Saturday evening during NAU's first and only scrimmage of fall practice, all three quarterback hopefuls stated their case for why they should be the starting signal-caller when the Jacks take the field Aug. 30 against Arizona State in their season opener. And one by one, they were all impressive cases.

Combined, the three quarterbacks went 19-for-23 for 242 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.

"A quarterback could have eliminated himself from the race tonight and no one did," coach Jerome Souers said. "It was really good to see that. We really try to emphasize high-percentage, efficient offense and we saw a bunch of that tonight."

Herrick got the first shot and didn't disappoint. The University of Mississippi transfer attempted three passes on his first drive and completed all of them. His final pass was a touchdown pass to junior college transfer Ed Berry.

After Herrick exited to the sidelines, it was Slater's turn. He picked up right where Herrick left off. Each quarterback directed five-play drives before handing it off to the next quarterback. On Slater's first play of his drive, he handed the ball off to freshman running back DeAnte Piper, who was stopped for a loss.

Man, that would SUCK for Kriesien. Dude has been AWESOME for the Jacks...it would really suck to lose his job NOW.

I don't think he will. but it is great to have the choices
