The Trolley-Dodgers are being dismantled before our eyes

Post by SuperHornet »

Double XX Sports radio in San Diego reported last night that the Dodgers have traded Juan Pierre to the ChiSox in the midst of a COMPLETE dismantling on a level not seen since Charley Finley's Athletics in the '70s. Apparently, the GM's hands are tied regarding the spending of new monies while the team is involved in a BITTER divorce proceeding involving the McCourts, who have owned the team since buying them from Fox.

There was some discussion about trying to keep the team separate from the court hearings and running it as a "normal" business for the sake of the players and fans, but apparently this is either impossible or the principles will not allow it for whatever reason.

I thought I'd mention this in the midst of the other Hot Stove posts since it's not getting much play here.

Juan Pierre
Jim Thome
John Garland
Mark Loretta
Jason Schmidt
Juan Castro
Jeff Weaver
Randy Wolf
Orlando Hudson
Vincente Padilla
Guillermo Mota
Eric Milton
Doug Mientkiewicz
Ronnie Belliard
Brad Ausmus

Honestly, outside of Wolf, Hudson and Mota, the rest of these guys are either wanna be's or has-beens. A LOT of money being wasted on these folks.

With Ramirez, Andre Ethier, Russel Martin, James Loney, Casey Blake, Matt Kemp in the field and Billingsley, Kiroda, Kershaw as the backbone of a starting rotation with Broxton in the bullpen I think the Dodgers will be just fine.

I'm not prepared to call Thome a "has-been." And while Loretta is certainly not a first tier star, he's a d@#% serviceable second baseman. I wouldn't be surprised if the Pads make another run at him.

I wouldn't say much about a journeyman like Wolf, though.

The rest, I'll grant you.

But the reason I brought it up is that apparently Dodger fans from LA down to SD are up in arms over this. While none of these guys (except MAYBE Pierre) are first-tier stars, they ARE the backbone of a pretty decent team.

Thome is not worth a damn in the NL. He could be a producive DH in the AL, but he can't play in the field anymore. I love him, but his time is over.

I agree. He was a non-factor in the NLCS.

...and I think next year they're going to regret that Ramirez contract as well.

Yeah, he'll be drug free - and average, but still paid like he's on drugs.

Pre-suspension, in 27 games and 92 AB's, Manny had 6 HR's, 20 RBI, .348 average, .641 slugging, .492 OBP, 1.008 OPS. The power numbers projected to 36/120/.348. Very "Manny-like".

Post-suspension, in 77 games Manny had 260 AB's, 13 HR's, 43 RBI, .269 average, .492 SLG, .442 OBP, .761 OPS. The power number projected out to 27/90/.269. Very AVERAGE.

Plus, he's a defensive liability. :coffee: :coffee:

Sexual dysfunction drug my ASS. These numbers just SCREAM "doper".
