Tighter security taken on U.S.-bound travel
Extra pat-downs before boarding. No getting up for the last hour of the flight. More bomb-sniffing dogs. Airports worldwide tightened security a day after a passenger tried to light some kind of explosive on a flight into Detroit.
NBC News reports the new steps include:
Pat downs of passengers at airport security, concentrating on the upper torso and legs;
Physical inspections of all carry-on bags at the gate;
Requiring all passengers to be seated for the full hour prior to arrival;
Banning the use of blankets and pillows one hour prior to arrival.

The answer is simple. Don't let any mofo named Ahmad or Yousef or Muhammad from a majority-Muslim country board a US-bound flight if he pays cash for a one-way ticket without luggage. Especially if he straps an incendiary device to his Nads. AZZHOLES!!

Another example of us be reactive instead of proactive. We continue to respond to threats with stupid knee jerk responses, passengers suffer and I don't think we're any safer.

You dont know that MJ. You are underestimating our enemy. They figured out how to take over, fly and crash planes into buildings they might have been able to figure out a lock.mainejeff wrote:It would have prevented the 9-11 attacks......at least the way that they happened, a-hole.clenz wrote:the answer is simple, just lock the damn doors...ask mainejeff. If there locks on the cockpit doors the terrorists probably would have known and planned accordingly.mainejeff wrote:With a box cutter?BlueHen86 wrote:

Also, FWIW - they took over 4 planes using box cutters. Who would have thought that pre-9/11?

Both Yousef and Joseph are translations from the same Hebrew (or whatever) name that he actually used.Ivytalk wrote:Joseph. And he was Jewish.JayJ79 wrote:not that anyone here really cares, but that Jesus dude's ("step")dad was named Yousef.

The 9-11 hijackings were successful because the procedures at the time left the un-reinforced doors unlocked...and if a hijacker asked they were brought forward to the flight cabin to negotiate...
Well, we now know there was no negotiation intended on that Tuesday...but if the doors had been reinforced like they are now (and had been recommended long before 9-11) and the flight crew refused to open the door even if people were threathened (as they are suppose to do now)...the attack would have failed...some flight attendants and/or passengers might have been cut or killed with the box cutters, but the planes would not have been flown into buildings...
Hind sight is so 20/20....

^^^ We were told to cower like baby rabbits in case of hijackings, now we know we must take our security in our own hands, and fight for our lives if necessary in those instances.
Long held theory in my part of the country is that your first line of defense is you, the cops can only make it to the scene to oversee the clean up. Don't see any dirka dirkas hanging around my town.
BTW, due to the gross oversupply of guns and ammo in our regional sporting goods, they are having 20% off sales, and employee pricing!!
Seems the "Obama is gonna take our guns and ammo" freaks finally got their basements stocked up and their credit cards maxed out.

Re: Tighter security taken on U.S.-bound travel
But that is the problem. In all likelyhood the flight crew would have opened the door since the mindset at the time was to cooperate and negotiate with hijackers in order to insure the safety of the passengers.Col Hogan wrote:MJ is partially right...more right than wrong...BlueHen86 wrote:

Post 9-11 there is no way a flight crew would open the door. I think reinforcing the doors and putting locks on them is a great idea, but I'm not sure they would have prevented 9-11 had they been in place at that time.

Or better yet, just don't allow anyone that the UK has placed on their No-Fly list & we have placed on our own Terror Watch list....why is this so frigging hard? Even worse than just being a no-fly list - looks like he didn't even have a passport and was escorted on the flight by a well-dressed man.

If you expect to fly to the US from a third-world country be prepared to get off the plan at your layover and go through security screening again.
How in the world can we trust a country like Nigeria with our security?

Re: Tighter security taken on U.S.-bound travel
While Mutallab was poorly dressed, his friend was dressed in an expensive suit, Haskell said. He says the suited man asked ticket agents whether Mutallab could board without a passport. “The guy said, 'He's from Sudan and we do this all the time.'”
Mutallab is Nigerian. Haskell believes the man may have been trying to garner sympathy for Mutallab's lack of documents by portraying him as a Sudanese refugee.
The ticket agent referred Mutallab and his companion to her manager down the hall, and Haskell didn't see Mutallab again until after he allegedly tried to detonate an explosive on the plane.
Unbelievable.
Looks like we're either going to have to attack Nigeria, Sudan, and Yemen, or actually start enforcing some regulations.

Re: Tighter security taken on U.S.-bound travel
Here's the joke of our system: AZGrizFan is on the no-fly list. That's right, that's what 22 years of military service gets you, apparently. I do NOT have the ability to check in remotely, and must stand in line each time, show my passport or other government issued ID, and am constantly subjected to additional security checks. Don't ask me HOW, or WHY, but I'm on the list and it's difficult to get off the list.White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said the government will investigate its systems for placing suspicious travelers on watch lists and for detecting explosives before passengers board flights.
THAT'S how flawed the system is, despite that dyke Napolitano's reassurances to the contrary.
