Of course, none of that sinks in to the thick-skulls, because that challenges their beliefs, and the moral superiority that they claim over the evil Muslim bastards.
This is the problem when you expose a rigid, black and white belief on a underdeveloped and violent culture.
I don't think most fundies actually support the death penalty for gays, it's more of a tacit approval. But I hope they're freaked out at the prospect that they're not really that far removed it.

It means they weren't raised believers, or turned their back on God and eventually came back to him, or some BS like that.andy7171 wrote:So fundamentalist are the ones who believe the world in only 5000 some years old?Chizzang wrote:

Yeah, I got that, but I don't see then reasoning to get up in everyones business. Yup...
They're pretty excited about Jesus
I worked with a Born again guy (many many years ago) and he was usually very frustrated with me
Apparently most people just ignore them - and they get used to that - I however enjoyed engaging him in lively animated debate... the more excited he got I tried to get measurably just as excited...
he eventually came to HATE me - it took a really long time - ignoring them is faster and easier

I usually respond to them by saying "How do you know he hasn't already?" And they usually act indignant when upon finding I go to church more often than they do.Chizzang wrote:andy7171 wrote: Yeah, I got that, but I don't see then reasoning to get up in everyones business. My favorite was explaining that I absolutely believed in God, in fact I explained that I am an expert on God... this is met with much resistance and disbelief - I eventually shared with him the secret to all life...
Everybody already knows everything they need to know about God - it's just a matter of believing what they already know - and most of our lives we are being separated from God and interestingly enough it seems that sometimes Religion is the largest device or organism used to separate humans from God

I'm thinking that Ugandans must be really easy to control if a few Christian ministers can cause such an immediate, hitherto unknown hatred of gays.
Wow. Culture counts for nothing when it suits the argument.
Who would have known that to prevent the genocide in Rwanda all we would had to do was send Jerry Falwell over there to tell them not to do it!
Sounds like more of the Overseer/Field Hand mindset of the left, a la Barbara Boxer.

It's not just ministers. It's Congressmen and Senators (Democrat and Republican). The President of Uganda that has been pushing this bill has been invited to the National Prayer Breakfast hosted by "The Family" or "The Fellowship" that I posted about earlier. They (Brownback, Inhofe, Coburn, etc.) award HEAPS of money to Uganda to "fight" AID'S through absitence education. Surely you can see the allure of money to a poor African nation, right? Yeah, Ugandans are easy to control if you have heaps of money to throw at them (oh, and that's while preaching fiscal conservativismCID1990 wrote:I'm thinking that Ugandans must be really easy to control if a few Christian ministers can cause such an immediate, hitherto unknown hatred of gays.

We've been dumping rubbers on them for 20 years. Bush comes along and triples aid to Africa and now everybody's up in arms about the result. Unintended consequences? Certainly.D1B wrote:Skjellyfetti wrote:

That being said, I would suggest that some of you take a look at the country reports by the State Dept as well as CIA. Many countries in Africa that did not benefit from our 'proselytizing' already have laws against homosexuality. Many of those laws have been in place since there were laws. Zimbabwe is one.
Heck, take a look at www.talesmag.com. Lok at the post reports. Each survey has a specific question about what the situation for gays is in each country. Take a look at all the African countries.
The most plausible explanation is that a bunch of ministers went into Uganda preaching the same old same old abstinence, blah blah homosexuality is a sin, blah blah, and people who were already inclined to homophobia as well as violence took it too far. I am not so sure that Americans went into Uganda thinking, "Let's take all this money and get the Africans to kill all the queers."
Seems to me that people who are so worried about the left creating atheistic anarchy in America are not going to waste that much time and energy on some pissant backwater in Africa, but then again there's too much tinfoil and not enough heads to put it on around here.
Dback you just stay over here and we'll protect you from the big bad boogeymen preachers.
