Montana hires an OC and nabs a QB recruit
Montana has hired former Oregon St. quarterback and Idaho quarterbacks coach Jonathan Smith as their OC:
http://www.missoulian.com/sports/colleg ... 002e0.html
Also, QB recruit Jordy Johnson, the Oregon 6A player of the year from Sheldon High in Eugene, has verbally committed to the Griz:
http://highschoolsports.oregonlive.com/ ... o-montana/
Between the hiring of Pflugrad and Smith and the recruiting of Johnson, could we be in store for a revival of the Air Bear offense within the next couple of years??

Doh, that's why I couldn't find him in Rivals. "Jordy", not "Jordan"

Re: Montana hires an OC and nabs a QB recruit
Montana is also in the running for the 2008 NJ Player of the Year Dillon Romain.
http://recruiting.scout.com/2/936011.html
NJ isn't a slouch state when it comes to HS football. And he didn't play against crappy competition either. he played for Don Bosco, which won the HS National Championship this year (#1 in all 3 national polls).
He played this year at Blair Academy (where Dion Lewis from Pitt played last year). He was the Prep League player of the year this year.
http://recruiting.scout.com/2/936011.html
We heard that he actually committed to Albany, but it hasn't been confirmed. The kid is a legit player but for some reason he keeps getting overlooked.Albany, Missouri State, Portland State and Monmouth have all offered Romain and have been working hard to get him, but it doesn’t sound like any of those options are the route that he wants to go, so it looks like it will come down to Montana, Rutgers and Tulane.
Tulane is a program that sent two coaches to Blair Academy to meet with Romain, have him very high on their list at both running back and safety, however they are waiting on players right above him to make their college decision which could leave the Green Wave behind.
Rutgers offered Romain a preferred walk-on last season which he did not accept and according to multiple sources close to Scout.com, they have come back with the same offer again this week. The Scarlet Knights could really use a true tailback, however they must be tight on scholarships as they have not put out a written offer.
FCS powerhouse Montana just lost to Villanova in the National Championship game and has come in late and come in strong for his services as they need a running back for next season and have him targeted for the spot. Romain visited the school and loved it there, however a day earlier their head coach Bobby Hauck just took his staff and went to UNLV to take over the program. Montana’s running backs coach and others in the program have told Romain he’ll be offered when a new head coach is named, however one has not been retained yet.
Romain has remained quiet about his recruiting and Scout.com has not spoken with him recently, however we’ve been told that his decision could come soon. If Montana names a head coach, it sounds like he’ll be a Grizzly, but for now he remains uncommitted and Rutgers could be in the picture as well.

Do we? I figure between Tel Reynolds, Dan Moore, and Peter Nguyen we have the TBF/backup role filled pretty well.

This guy doesn't really have his facts straight anyway. He missed the boat on the fact that Montana has hired a head coach and now an O-coordinator.Silenoz wrote:as they need a running back for next season

I just had a little back and forth email convo with the guy who wrote that article. He said that the kid's father called him this morning after he wrote the article and confirmed that he committed to Albany.
Definitely the biggest get we've had since the scholarships started to be offered.

Still a lot of time for the kid to change his mind though. Kids de-commit all the time and if he does get an FBS offer I'm sure he'll take that over Albany (or even Montana).Ursus A. Folks on the NJ HS football forums now claiming that Romain has committed to Montana.
Not a surprise for me if it is true, but no confirmation.

Search Romain.
You'll see two different posts from today - one saying he committed to Albany. One saying to Montana.
I asked for official confirmation, but no one has responded yet.
Matt Alkire at Scout.com (http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p= ... id=4407914) told me that he has a direct line of communication with Romain's father so I'm sure he'll have the story when he does actually commit.
I'm actually still amazed this kid hasn't gotten an FBS offer. He only average 300 yards per game rushing at Prep School this year.
Re: Montana hires an OC and nabs a QB recruit
Good to see good things said about Montana...
I don't remember another NJ kid ever going to college at Univ of Montana. Very different out there. Lots of married college students but no stranger to white RBs. LOL

There's one schmuck on the NJ forum that believes Romain didn't get FBS offers because he was a white RB.
His point is that:
The 2008 NJ POY was Romain from Don Bosco. No FBS offers and last year only offers from Albany and Monmouth.
The 2009 NJ POY was RB Tony Jones from Don Bosco. Multipel FBS offers despite stats that equal to or less than Romain's.
Tony Jones is a black kid. Romain is a white kid. The guy writes a post every hour on that fact. "The Plight of the White RB". Google it - you'll find an article written about Romain.

Romain = white = tough, hard nosed, downhill runner, blue collar, hard worker...
Jones = black = gifted, athletic, fast, shifty....
Same guy, just different colors.

Sounds like could be a great get for Albany if they can lock him up.

I'm pretty confident in saying that Romain would be the most accomplished HS recruit we've ever gotten.BobbyMo wrote:Sounds like could be a great get for Albany if they can lock him up.
Good to see another NEC guy around these parts BobbyMo.

Yeah, I do like the number of NEC guys on ags, but other than that...
I called someone a homer and got negative rep points from him for "name calling" LOL

Just confirmed that Dillon Romain is enrolled and attended class today in...................
Albany
Great signing for the Danes and even better knowing he'll be in Spring ball to learn the system.
(BTW, I'm 99.99% confident that he was offered by the Griz last weekend).:

Might be why Romain got turned off by Montana, or vice versa.
