I've noticed that they tend to be rather slow, and sometimes inconsistent, in updating their stats, results, and standings.

Northern Iowa 4-0 - 13-1
Wichita State 3-1 ½ 14-2
Illinois State 3-1 1 12-3
Missouri State 2-2 2 12-3
Southern Illinois 2-2 2 9-4
Indiana State 2-2 2 10-5
Bradley 2-2 1½ 7-7
Creighton 2-2 2 7-8
Evansville 0-4 3½ 6-8
Drake 0-4 3½ 5-11
that "games back" column confuses me.
If all teams have played 4 conference games, how do they end up with half-games? (i.e. WSU being a half-game back)

Which is really irrelevant except for a tie breaker situation, and over-all record is I think tie-breaker #2 behind head to head record.

Correct, I'm just explaining what ESPN was doing.

Actually, over-all record has no direct relevance in conference standings. At least not in determining the "regular season conference champ" (if the top two or more teams finish with the same conference record, they are declared co-champs), nor in determining the seeding for the MVC tournament.
MVC tourney seeding tiebreakers:
  • a. head-to-head competition
  • b. if three or more teams are tied, regular-season competition among the tied teams shall be pooled into a "mini round-robin." Teams shall be ranked according to their position in such a round robin.
  • c. power-rating, using conference games. (20 pts for a road win over 1st place team, 19 for a home win against 1st, 18 for a road win over 2nd, 17 for a home win over 2nd, etc. etc.)
  • d. Most recently available NCAA RPI ranking.
Yes, non-conference games influence RPI rankings, but it isn't a direct corelation of overall record.

UNI has defenitely looked the best so far. But these things are so fragile, and it could slip away at any time.

I'd say WSU has the best chance other than UNI at this point. They have a really talented and athletic team, and have a great home court. Illinois state has the best player in the league, but I don't think they have a good enough team to win the title.

It will be a really really tough conference year. A lot of good teams in the MVC again this year.

I appreciate the insight, hopefully the MVC is a multi-bid conference come tournament time. N.Iowa looks like they could be a Sweet 16 team.

Perfectly awful display of basketball for a national TV audience Saturday afternoon. The birds have so much more athletic ability than the panthers, but we get out coached by 20 points. Time for Jankcantcoach to find a new job.

Been awhile since I posted. I'm behind sorry guys...for the 2 of you that read this and care...you two follow the Valley probably and don't need this but still

Standings Conference Overall
W L GB W L
Northern Iowa 7 0 - 16 1
Wichita State 5 2 2 16
Illinois State 4 3 3 13 5
Creighton 4 3 3 9 9
Missouri State 3 4 4 13 5
Southern Illinois 3 4 4 10 6
Indiana State 3 4 4 11 7
Bradley 3 4 4 8 9
Drake 3 4 4 8 11
Evansville 0 7 7 6 11

Only two games separate 2nd through 9th. It really is a cluster fuck right now. If UNI knocks off Wichita State on Tuesday and Evansville looses Tuesday it seems the only thing set is the 1st and last place teams.

Redbirds trying to secure 2nd place and the all important #2 seed in the tournament. Sure DO NOT want to be the #4, means your season ends Saturday afternoon

big road win @ CU
