Missouri Valley Football Conference 2010
How are things shaping up in 2010?
Southern Illinois lost their offensive coordinator to Youngstown State, where he is the recruiting coordinator/offensive asst.
Youngstown State got a brand new head coach known for his recruiting, we already got one of the top running backs in all of Ohio in Allen Jones of Ursuline, guided Ursuline to three straight championship appearances and two straight titles in 2008 and 2009.
Indiana State got a QB from Washington.
Thoughts?

Are you sure about SIU? I thought they had a pretty young team.
UNI is an unknown. We lose the whole D-line, and O-line, most of the LBs, the QB, and good WRs. Could be a tough year.

Re: Missouri Valley Football Conference 2010
This conference is going to be a cluterfuck this year. Teams were very senior heavy last year, and may be inexeperienced this year.
SIU, UNI, SDSU, and probably YSU will fight for the top 4 with NDSU and Illinois State fighting for the 5-7 spots with ISUB and WIU bringing up the rear....like normal.

Re: Missouri Valley Football Conference 2010
Its going to be one hell of a tough year for SDSU with a brutal schedule this year. Like a few Jacks fans have said, this next years team could be better than this last one and not sniff the playoffs. All the road games are against the contenders, with the exclusion of YSU if they really are legit this year.
Away:
@Delaware
@Nebraska
@UNI
@SIU
@ISU B
@NDSU
Only break in the first three mentioned is Ill St at home, who are a dangerous team as well.
Not a fan of this schedule. As of now we only have 4 home games. Ah well such is life, hopefully we pick up a slack counter game in there for a home game.

Lennon will have SIU in the running for the conference title most years. Hopefully NDSU can rebound from a couple bad seasons.

Both teams lose a fair amount of starters (as do most teams each year).SUUTbird wrote:I highly doubt a playoff team in SDSU will lose to an SIU team who lost 17 starters this year...just pointing that out
Both teams were playoff teams this past season (albeit teams that had disappointing games in the playoffs)
SIU blew out SDSU in Brookings.
The game this year will be in Carbondale.
SIU has a tendancy to reload instead of having to rebuild.
I'd have to favor the Salukis in that one, regardless of how many starters they lost. But it's certainly not a lock.
Though looking at both schedules, SIU could be banged up going into that game, having just played UNI, where as SDSU will be coming off a game with WIU.

I think we'll stand a chance at home vs. SIU and UNI. We got SIU's offensive coordinator now , which could help in the week leading up to the game. And Heacock is gone, the 0-9 plague against UNI has moved on. I will like to see how Wolf does against UNI. I am not sure we can win in Brookings though, but we shall see.clenz wrote:@ Penn State - L

Re: Missouri Valley Football Conference 2010
Just to put the SDSU numbers in this thread...
Offense... Loses (or looses depending on where your from) 5 starters
2 Tackles will be big holes to fill and 1 guard was rotated pretty well so there is experience there.
Lost 2 very good possession receivers but have some good speed receivers behind them.
Still have very good RB, 2 very good TE, an up and coming qb, and all conference C.
Defense... Loses 5 starters and 1 sub LB
Lose Conference co Defensive Player of the year and one other starting DT, Lose 3 of our top 4 LB and return entire secondary with added depth gained this year due to injury.

Re: Missouri Valley Football Conference 2010
SIU does lose 17 starters. The good news is that we have two good QBs and four O-line starters back, along with 5 or 6 defensive players that saw significant pt and an all-American corner; we'll reload but it ain't easy to replace both Payton and Buchanan candidates. Lennon red-shirted the entire freshman class except for RB Steve Strother. We're also looking for an OC but not very worried about that.DJH wrote:Are you sure about SIU? Maybe not. We don't have an OC yet and aren't really sure what offense we'll be using in '10. Might be something totally different. We did get Pitt xfer Shariff Harris, RB.guinzone wrote:I think we'll stand a chance at home vs. SIU and UNI. Ehhh I am not quite sure about any Pitt running back besides Dion Lewis. They recruited a local kid here in Youngstown as a running back. In a game against perennial power Cardinal Mooney, the kid rushed for maybe 30 yards as they lost 55-0. The YSU RB recruit Allen Jones rushed for 130 yards against Mooney in a 27-22 loss.houndawg wrote:Maybe not. We don't have an OC yet and aren't really sure what offense we'll be using in '10. I know I shouldn't compare kids like that, but I am. I am not sure what Coach W thought when he brought that kid in, and I am not sure if this hilariously named Shariff Harris is anything special either. We shall see though.

Re: Missouri Valley Football Conference 2010
YSU's recruiting class is really shaping up nicely. Tonight a Rival 3-Star Recruit, Eric Franklin from Youngstown Cardinal-Mooney committed to YSU! He had offers from Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Kansas, Indiana, and a few MAC schools. We also got an ESPN 2-Star LB recruit from Florida in Ali Cheaib of Dunedin High School.
Franklin Profile:

Definitely one of the biggest FCS recruits of the year.
