Quite frankly, I could get on board with 6 or 7 equally capitalized political parties. Then the lines would not be blurred between the candidates, and you would not have to vote for someone simply because they are a lesser evil than the other choice, as many people did in the last presidential election. There are disadvantages to revamping our political system in this way, but consider the types of presidents we have ended up with when there were numerous political parties vying for power. Abraham Lincoln comes to mind.

California - it would just HAVE to be it's own country - nobody else wants that headache.

Grain Belt - IA, KS, NB, ND, SD, MO

Most of these loosely defined areas have WAY more in common with each other than with the other areas. They have the same ideologies, the same concerns, and typically vote the same way in major elections. The actual borders might not exactly match state lines, but you get the idea (for example, Eastern Montana has more in common with the Grain Belt than the Rocky Mountain States)...

We need to quit trying to make this country something that it's not. Homogenous. I'm tired of seeing one "area" or another continually attempt to force IT'S ideology onto the rest of the country.

Neither Palin nor Huckabee will get the nomination. Look for Romney, along with Newt Gingrich and possibly Bobby Jindal as the only realistic contenders.

May be too early to tell, although yes, Obama's response to the loss in the Senate of blistering the banks, again, and saying they're to blame for all our troubles is a little unsettling. It works fine in a campaign to go so populist, but you can't govern very effectively that way. Just hope this isn't the start of just one long year of campaigning in the hopes of staving off too many losses come the Fall. It's almost impossible to lose control of the Senate and it's very unlikely to lose control of the House, so the current arrangement of government is likely to stay the way it is, with numbers moving a little bit towards the GOP, until at least 2012. Gonna need to do something other than just villify certain parts of America between now and then.

Agree about the Senate, but I wouldn't say "very unlikely" about the House, but rather less than 50/50. Cook and Rothenburg just came out with a new revised forecast today:
