8 GSU players suspended

Post by dbackjon »

Georgia Southern head football coach Chris Hatcher announced that five student-athletes are being suspended for the season-opener at Georgia and three student-athletes will miss the first two games of the 2008 season due to a violation of institutional rules.
Hatcher announced that Raja Andrews (senior WR), Charwel Brown (junior DE), Brandavious Mann (redshirt-freshman OL), Terrione Benefield (junior LB) and Damon Suggs (senior DE) will miss the season-opener at Georgia. Zeke Rozier (redshirt-freshman RB), Garryon Taylor (junior WR) and Ronnie Wiggins (junior DB) are suspended for the first two games of the season (Georgia and Austin Peay).

"To be a member of the Eagle Football program, student-athletes have specific rules to abide by. When the institution's rules are not followed then I will take immediate and appropriate action. I am disappointed to announce the suspensions concerning the respective student-athletes, but I expect all to learn from not doing right and make positive contributions to our program this season," said Hatcher.

Correct me if I am wrong, didn't GSU have some problems at the beginning of last season also?

It was the prior spring... the only real problems GSU had early last year was player attrition due to injuries.

Kudos to Coach Hatcher for instilling discipline in the program.

Where are these guys on the depth chart?

So much for attempting to hang with GA, huh?

Andrews, Suggs, Benefield, and Rozier were likely starters for the first game. Wiggins has received significant playing time in his first two seasons but was not listed as a starter.

Just an interesting FYI, UGA has six players suspended for Saturday's game, bringing the total for the two squads to 14. That may be some kind of record for a game not involving Florida State or Miami.
