First female to win a major sporting event head to head against men. And not just any PBA event, but one of their "majors". This is about the only sport I can see this ever happening in, congrats to Kelly.

Dunno about her being the first - I always thought McEnroe was a big pussy...OSBF wrote:First female to win a major sporting event head to head against men. And not just any PBA event, but one of their "majors". This is about the only sport I can see this ever happening in, congrats to Kelly.

I actually watched this happened. Then I went and bowled a 182 on Wii Bowling.

Have you not been paying attention the last few years, OSBF? Is Danica's win at Twin-Ring Motegi not "major" enough for you? And what about equestrian grand prix, where women and men compete on an equal basis every freaking day and women win about as often as men? And I'm not even counting the tennis matches between King-Riggs and Riggs/Gerulaitis-Navratilova/Shriver (which urban legend claims were played under modified rules but Wiki denies; you be the judge).OSBF wrote:First female to win a major sporting event head to head against men.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

No, Damnica's thing in japland not as impressive. When she wins at Indy or Michigan, then we'll talk. This was a major event on the PBA tour, I think I heard the announcer say there were 19 HOF'ers/bowlers of the year in the field.SuperHornet wrote:Have you not been paying attention the last few years, OSBF? I've driven in motorsports, yes, it is physically demanding, but I'm not sure I'd consider it athletics, but then I'm not sure bowling is athletics either. I got my arse kicked more than once by this obnoxious little beyatch in a blue winged sprint Kart, named Sarah Fisher.
Equestrian, OK, I didn't think of that.
Tennis???????? GMAFB. An above average college mens player would DESTROY the women's tour. Sampras, Roddick, Nadal, etc etc could play any women's player you care to name and never drop a set, perhaps a point.
That's what makes her accomplishment so impressive.
