Re: Say what you will about Brett Favre
Excellent points. I was debating "Brett" today with some others. I don't understand the media's love affair, either. Yes, I give him kudos for his toughness and talent. But he is far from being the 'best ever' to play the game. The 'best' do not make the horrendous mistakes he has made over the years because his ego is so huge he thinks his rocket arm will overcome any obstacle. Well, talent got trumped by stupidity, again. That was not a 'team player' move. His job was to get his team into fg range, not make a fantastic play.GannonFan wrote:Favre is a great QB an all, but the adulation given to him has always been greater than he actually is. He's never been the best QB in the game (football in general) ever in his career. He was in Aikman's shadow back in the day when the Packers could never beat the Cowboys, Elway was the man later in the 90's, Brady and Warner early in this decade, and now Manning is looking like perhaps, the best QB ever.
Thought it was laughable when Bradshaw said in the pregame that he thought Favre was the best he's ever seen. For a guy who won 4 SB's not to recognize the inability of Favre to win big games is amazing to me.

Re: Say what you will about Brett Favre
I was criticized today for saying Brett Favre should retire...by someone who has no clue what they were talking about and had the reasoning "Colt McCoy got hurt and had to sit out, but Brett took it and kept going" to which I have to say Colt was hurt more and has a future, Favre's getting old and is really going to do some long term damage to himself if he isn't careful

If Minnesota had won we would be in the middle of the biggest 2 week media circle jerk in the history of sport with Farve and Manning.Rob Iola wrote:Yeah, I was a hater at the beginning of the season (my wife's from Wisconsin) - but dadgum that was one hell of a season and one hell of a game, even if he did get a Tom Brady call or 2.
Shame we can't have Manning v Favre in 2 weeks - hopefully New Orleans can get it done in Miami, but if I was a betting man I'd be wagering on the Colts - Manning's absolutely possessed...
Yep about the Colts winning. Minnesota despite repeatedly turning the ball over shredded the New Orleans defense, and I see the Colts doing the same thing- but without the turnovers. The Colts will take this one by at least a couple of TDs.

Yeah, the choker Farve could never win the BIG one.GannonFan wrote:Favre is a great QB an all, but the adulation given to him has always been greater than he actually is. When Favre retires for good and it's clear he's done for good, almost everyone will forget the drama and remember the good, even Packers fans. Packers fans will cry when he's inducted into the HOF.

Re: Say what you will about Brett Favre
Favre has one the big game when he was young and had a good team around him. Some of the late 90's and most of the 2000's Packer teams were not that great, but he still lead them to the playoffs where they were exposed. Now that he is in the twilight of his career, he's lost some big games. Too many people are biased against Favre because of the media coverage. Dan Marino was pretty bad at the end of his career, and never won the big game, same with Donovan McNabb. Fran Tarkenton played on great teams and lost 3 Super Bowls. John Elway lost Super Bowls until Denver had a decent team behind him. Kurt Warner, like Favre has won 1 Super Bowl, and lost several big games in his career. Not many QB's get a chance to play on a great team like Bradshaw or Montana and win 4 Super Bowls.GannonFan wrote:Thought it was laughable when Bradshaw said in the pregame that he thought Favre was the best he's ever seen. Re: Say what you will about Brett Favre
Huge difference between Warner and Favre. In the two Superbowls that Warner lost he led his team to tying and leading scores late in the fourth quarter, only to have the other QB out do him in the closing seconds. Warner didn't lose, he was beaten. Favre has lost many big games because of late interceptions. I think Favre's last three seasons have ended with him throwing a late interception at a key moment of a big game.Gil Dobie wrote:Favre has one the big game when he was young and had a good team around him.
