On a serious note, groundhogs are considered a pest by farmers. My neighbor, growing up, used to take his scoped rifle out and shoot groundhogs whenever he could spot them so they didn't bore holes in his crops.

How ironic would it be if P-Phil was tagged and released and then turned up dead with a bullet hole through him a week later? To think that particular groundhog somehow has it worse than the rest of them that are fighting predators, traffic, and farmers with scoped rifles is short-sighted, if not absolutely ridiculous.
