Good move, IMHO...
There are lots more alumns in the eastern part of the state, and hopefully this will get them out to a game...
It will be hard on students, but if the alumni association takes some of that money we've given them and gets bussess for students, maybe we can get a reall good showing... (I might have to write the association on that idea...

The Globe focuses on UMass moving up, but I at least for UNH it's to raise the profile of FCS football in the area. I'd love to see some type of double header with Bryant or CCSU perhaps.

Yea, the Globe would focus on that...IMHO, moving up is so far off that it's not worth the effort to discuss...yorkcountyUNHfan wrote:The Globe focuses on UMass moving up, but I at least for UNH it's to raise the profile of FCS football in the area. Re: UNH v UMass next two games to be played @ Gillette
I think both UNH and UMass see this as a way of being seen by a whole new group of fans. Both schools have a ton of alum in eastern Mass. If they like what they see they may start to head north or west on saturdays.
Re: UNH v UMass next two games to be played @ Gillette
Of course, UMass will never field a successful FB program until they "move up the football team to Division I."
WTF, Blaudschun?! Way to give a backhanded slap to UMass instead of complimenting them and UNH for doing something good for FB in NE.
Sometimes there's reason to think that FCS'ers are being nickpicky with D-I nomenclature and then there are other times when the media & FBS lovers use it to bitchslap the FCS. If nothing else, it's just sloppy reporting.
BTW, congrats to UMass & UNH for pulling this off.

Great news...Hopefully we can get more than 30k for that game. Anyone know where BC is playing on that Saturday?...Hopefully they are away so we can draw some extra college football fans that normally would attend a BC game. Wonder what the ticket prices will be...$35 Mr Kraft?

Would love that.yorkcountyUNHfan wrote:The Globe focuses on UMass moving up, but I at least for UNH it's to raise the profile of FCS football in the area. I'd love to see some type of double header with Bryant or CCSU perhaps.

Very cool, but what kind of crowd do you think this will draw?

Re: UNH v UMass next two games to be played @ Gillette
They won't know until it happens. I don't see why the first meeting wouldn't draw the curious and pull in 30k maybe? I'm sure it will drop off in the following years.89Hen wrote:Very cool, but what kind of crowd do you think this will draw?
Just curious, how many did the Temple-Delaware games draw at the Vet in the 70s? I don't believe it was much more than 30K, was it?

I think I know of at least one Northeastern fan who will probably be there.KAUMASS wrote:Great news...Hopefully we can get more than 30k for that game. I think it was 35k ish. Anything north of 30k would be a success for this game IMO.93henfan wrote:Just curious, how many did the Temple-Delaware games draw at the Vet in the 70s? I don't believe it was much more than 30K, was it?

I think anything North of the max they'd draw at McGirk (~15,000) would be a success.89Hen wrote:I think it was 35k ish. @ UMass this game draws 15-17k in Durham 10-12k
I don't see why 25-30k wouldn't be expected.

Dunno. If they bus the students for free then maybe. But if you get only a few more in Gillette and the students don't come, not a good move IMO.danefan wrote:I think anything North of the max they'd draw at McGirk (~15,000) would be a success.

I listened on radio. I remember the game was a big deal around the Philly-DE area. Without any embellishment, it might have been one of the best college FB games ever played in Philly featuring area teams. (Worded to intentionally exclude the old Army-Navy matchups at Municipal/JFK Stadium.)89Hen wrote:The man with the answers.henfan wrote:

The first game should draw 30K easily. Great for the fans of both programs and should help both programs dominate recruiting in New England. Thankfully, Maine gets most of their talent from NY, NJ, and PA now.

Great opportunity for the teams & the schools. Now the fans for both schools need to do their part & make it look great versus looking like a Temple home game at the Linc.

Agreed...that's why as a member of the Alumni Association I will lobby for them to pay for busses to get a big student turnout...and hope the Boston Alumni Club takes advantage of it to rally members and maybe get non-member grads to join...bluehenbillk wrote:Great opportunity for the teams & the schools. Financial issues most likely will keep me from making the trip to the Big House this year...but I just might be able to swing this one in conjunction with some family business in Massachusetts...

UMass will likely be somewhere from 2-4 to 4-2 coming into that game, and UNH anywhere from 3-4 to 5-2. I don't see 25-30k coming to that game if both teams are around .500. A lot will depend on the record of the 2 teams.

Re: UNH v UMass next two games to be played @ Gillette
I was thrilled when I saw this today posted by Friends of UMass Football on Facebook! Already texted some friends, will DEFINITELY be there, I live about 15 minutes from Foxborough so this will be perfect, I feel bad I don't get out to Amherst for more games, but it can be a hike. I would imagine the alumni in Boston will make a huge push to get people out to this game. I went to the UMass v. BC game a few years ago with about 6 friends and had a great time.[quote]
