Re: 56% Support president's Spending"Freeze"
Well, lets see: He exempted spending on national security, social security, medicare, medicaid and welfare from the "freeze".
That leaves about 9% of the budget to "freeze". So, the 9% may be about right!

I noticed that about 85% of the entire Congress giggled at him when he said it. The rest just sat in stunned silence at the "whopper he just told."

How do you just turn off the faucet and freeze spending after tossing $800 billion into the economy?

I wonder how many of the respondents understand exactly what the "freeze" entails, instead of the implication that it is across the board...native wrote:Following the President's State of the Union address, 56% of survey respondents support the President's proposed spending "freeze," but only 9% think it will make much of a difference.

I would think you would have to hit the biggest programs to see the most gains. It's going to hurt but it is necessary. Not all of Medicare, Medicaid, Defense, etc... should be exempt from it.

BB, I think your answer can be found in the disparity between the percentage who applaud the effort and the percentage who actually think it will make much of a difference.blueballs wrote:I wonder how many of the respondents understand exactly what the "freeze" entails, instead of the implication that it is across the board...native wrote:Following the President's State of the Union address, 56% of survey respondents support the President's proposed spending "freeze," but only 9% think it will make much of a difference.

I applaud the symbolic effort, even though it is a token smokescreen, but I still think the prez is a lying, incompetent scumbag.

First off, I don’t even know what Mr. Obama means by freeze. What baseline is it from? Past year’s budgets or this year’s bloated budget?
Maybe someone will explain where I’m wrong here, but it seem pretty obvious to me that the government will be broke in a few years. Mr. Obama and his minions know that and yet they perpetrate this duplicitous deception that they are cutting spending when we all know that cuts of 1% or so of this year’s deficit will do nothing.
Can anyone tell me why they are doing this? What is their objective? Do Mr. Obama’s supporters have any explanation for this at all?

I guess the best part about all of this is that he chastised Sen McCain during the 2008 campaign for the same thing he's now proposing.native wrote:BB, I think your answer can be found in the disparity between the percentage who applaud the effort and the percentage who actually think it will make much of a difference.blueballs wrote:

From the AP: "Obama is a convert to the cause of broad spending freezes. In the presidential campaign, he criticized Republican opponent John McCain for suggesting one. "The problem with a spending freeze is you're using a hatchet where you need a scalpel," he said a month before the election. Now, Obama wants domestic spending held steady in most areas where the government can control year-to-year costs. The proposal is similar to McCain's."

This whole scenario kind of reminds me of a child growing up into an adult.
