I can't understand why just these teams? Seems arbitrary. Who's going to finish #1? Why not take finished rankings of top 10 for 2009 & predict postseason rankings? This list is all over the place, unless I'm missing something (& don't say it's my brain). ;) What's the reasoning behind this list?

I don't believe this is possible simply due to your schedule. You have one full scholarship OOC opponent, an independent, a doormat NEC (hopefully not for much longer) team, and one that's only slightly better (and still not full scholly). Overall, only JMU had an above .500 record last season (6-5).

Combine that fact with a statistically likely loss vs. Ball State and JMU (their posters say the team is significantly improved and they did win last year), and I honestly would not be surprised if Liberty is not ranked at all by the conference slate (whether it deserves this or not. I personally believe Liberty will once again be quite good, just not able to show it properly). You need to at least be marginally more aggressive in schedule compilation to pull that type of ranking. Remember, #12 would likely go to the playoffs no matter what.

I hope your prediction for the two teams playing for the title are correct (obviously not the outcome). I would be a little surprised if ASU starts out the preseason ranked #4.

Agreed with your premise, but LU will beat either Ball State or JMU. JMU-LU game last year was 10-10 in the 4th quarter in a downpour. JMU broke one long play and that was the difference. We should be 3-2 at worse by conference play which we'll still be ranked. Then we get to beat up on the rest of the conference until we play you guys when we're at least 8-2. At 8-2 we will easily be ranked in the top 20 and quite possibly top 15. That's all IF we lose to both BSU and JMU which I don't think we will. We beat one of them and we will probably be top 10 at 9-1 by time we play SBU for the 'ship.

Cal Poly had a rough 2009 finishing 4-7, but I think they will surprise a few people here in 2010. In 2009 they had a brand new coaching staff, installed a new defense and had to replace 7 starters on offense. They then lost two starting offensive linemen by the second game of the season so that only left two starters from the previous year. Their defense was also racked by injuries.

This year they return 9 starters on offense plus 2 starters from the 2008 season. They also just got news that West Virginia RB Mark Rodgers is transfering to Cal Poly. In 2010 they will a full year with the new coaching staff and return 7 starters on defense. I hear they also have a big name FBS transfer coming in on that side of the ball. I think that in 2010 Cal Poly will be back in top 25 form.

I'm OK with my predictions. UD better than pre-season, Montana worse, SCSt worse, Liberty about what we thought... the only real dog so far is JMU.
