I wish they'd bring back speed skiing. Point those tips downhill and let it rip. 100+ MPH, unbelievable.

I pretty much like them all - I love the Olympics... have already started planning a London trip for 2012 (since I love the Olympics but hate the cold).

Re: Best Winter Olympic Event
I'd like to say hockey but since they are all NHL All-Stars I hardly consider it an olympic event.
I enjoy the speed skating the best. The ski jumpers get the award for having the biggest pair of balls. Having tried Curling once, I have to say that there is a lot more to it than meets the eye.
All in all I love the winter olympics.
... I just cannot stomach male figure skating.
Two man luge is just wrong.

If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.

Re: Best Winter Olympic Event
I went to a world cup bobsled event last year at Whistler. We were able to stand with in about 10 feet of the track. After that experience of seeing it up close and how fast they go all I can say is those guys are fucking nuts. They are big dudes too. I definately have a new appreciation for the sport.
My favorites: luge, bobsled, skeleton, alpine skiing, nordic jumping and I've lately become a fan of the super pipe.
I can't stand figureskating.

Rio would be good, but by then Kardette will be 15... if she still wants to hang with dad when she's 15 (unlikely), there's no way I'm unleashing her in Brazil...Grizalltheway wrote:Sounds like a trip to Rio might be in order as well.kardplayer wrote:I pretty much like them all - I love the Olympics... have already started planning a London trip for 2012 (since I love the Olympics but hate the cold).

I'm a sucker for all of them. I prefer the winter games to the summer by a factor of 100. Last olympics I honestly think I watched every single sport at least once, even curling and biathalon.

Did you lose a bet, Hen?
ROFL.
ROFL.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

BTW, I forgot to mention that I can not and will not watch figure skating. It's rigged.

What, you're trying to say it was rigged against Miss Broken Shoelace?

It's shuffleboard on ice - and yes, sometimes the girls are quite attractive.VictorG wrote:CitadelGrad wrote:Curling.

Re: Best Winter Olympic Event
That's the problem with any sport that's judged - there's no way to ever ensure that it was done fairly. I'm all in favor of calling things like Figure Skating "events" and saving the title of "sports" to things that you can tell who won without having to wait to have a panel of judges tell you who won.89Hen wrote:SuperHornet wrote:What, you're trying to say it was rigged against Miss Broken Shoelace?Nah... the competitions are set up where higher ranked skaters start at a higher point which makes it nearly impossible for a lower ranked skater to beat them. I think the gold medal should go to the skater that skated the best that day, not the highest ranked skater that skated the best that day.

Speed skating (distance and short track), Alpine, luge, bobsled.
Gannonfan - you beat me to the curling/shuffleboard comment.
BTW - what's up with the biathlon? Wiki says it was a training excercise for Norwegian soldiers, but I don't get why you need both the biathlon and cross country skiing. Maybe you could create a tandem Olympic downhill with a game of rock/paper/scissors in the middle?
The only thing worse than figure skating is ice dancing
Give me something objectively judged over subjectivity any day.

Since seeing this picture, I am now planning to watch every event this skiier is in.
