America East Basketball
America East Basketball
Figured the conference has quite a few FCS schools, so would start a thread on them:
of those with FCS football programs -
2. Maine - 12-6 (4-1): With a major OOC win against Boston College, Maine has wins against Stony Brook (home), Binghamton (away), Albany (away), New Hampshire (home).
4. Stony Brook - 13-7 (4-2): Just took down conference leader Vermont at their gym. Other wins are against Boston Univ (away), Hartford (home), and New Hampshire (home).
7. New Hampshire - 7-10 (2-4): Won this evening against UMBC (away). Other win against Albany (home)
8. Albany - 6-15 (1-5): Struggling against AE and OOC competition. Only win comes against single win total UMBC at home.
The conference seems to have split into two tiers, with Vermont, Maine, BU, and Stony Brook on top, and Binghamton leading the rest of the pack. The top is very, very close, so should have some great games ahead to see who gets that tourney birth.

Yup - Albany sucks this year.
Starting 3 freshman now and our vets have pretty much thrown in the towel. Defnitely a rebuilding year, but as long as we can keep the 8 freshman that we have in the program for the long haul, we'll be looking at some strong years to come.

There's so many of them, but Mike Black (G) and Logan Aronhalt (G/F) have looked pretty good this season.Redwyn wrote:Any big names in the Freshman class to watch out for?danefan wrote:Yup - Albany sucks this year.

We've also got a couple redshirting that could be decent. The team is deep, but incredibly inexperienced. We'll need a JUCO or Transfer next year to solidify it I think.
Re: America East Basketball
Seems to be the proper way to prime a program, though UMBC learned the hard way that it often doesn't help. Young talent seem just as fickle as potentially impressive.
Any new recruits coming in for 2011?

Not sure.... Hopefully Dane96 or Bosiydid can chime in. Those Albany guys follow bball closer than I do.\Redwyn wrote:Seems to be the proper way to prime a program, though UMBC learned the hard way that it often doesn't help. Young talent seem just as fickle as potentially impressive.

The Evil Empire really turned it around this year on the hardwood though. Good timing for the arena renovations. They still going forward?
What do you think the chances of the SUNY Empowerment and Innovation Act passing this year?
Re: America East Basketball
I haven't heard much about the renovations. My understanding's that the money is secured, but the project was frozen. What I do know is SBU's new Campus Rec center is now under construction after a 10 year delay, so hopefully it's a positive sign towards the arena. The campus is one massive construction site right now, with a massive freshman dorm (600 beds), a new molecular bio/engineering building, the campus rec center, major dorm renovations, Jim Simons' new Geometry research center, and renovations to the Chem building all ongoing. Admins might just want to hold off a bit longer before slapping another construction project on the list.
The SUNY Empowerment Act is certainly interesting. I do hope it goes forward. However, we have a very slow state senate. While the ability to adjust tuition is wonderful (this will mean tuition at a good number of SUNY schools will rocket, even those who pride themselves on affordability), I can't see this getting through Albany fast enough for us to feel its effects before 2011. Once it's through though...we could be on the cusp of seeing a golden age for the Big 4 SUNY campuses.

Is U Albany renovating their arena with any of the stadium capital they're getting for football?

Re: America East Basketball
The original designs called for the stadium to be connected to the basketball arena and to have shared concession and restroom facilities, which would require work to the basketball arena.Redwyn wrote:Is U Albany renovating their arena with any of the stadium capital they're getting for football?
The final plans are supposed to be announced in the next few weeks and apparently construction is supposed to start this spring. I don't know whether that part of the design has changed though.

This is really going to help your program and is long overdue. Our leaders in Albany can really drag their feet and find ways to waste money rather than invest it in our Univeristies. Good luck with the project!
Re: America East Basketball
Really right game vs. Albany on Sunday. Was a nailbiter until the very end. The team does indeed have a ton of potential. Shades of how we were last year. No doubt it's a top roster as they mature.
I love how vocal your coach is btw. Seems so passionate about the team.

The Stony Brook Seawolves are now in 1st place in the America East Conference by virtue of defeating Boston University last night 71-55. We are 15-7 and 7-2 in AE play! Next game is at the Univ. of Hartford Wednesday 2/3. This is Stony Brooks best start since going to D-1.

Congrats to the Seawolves....but remember the regular season America East means nothing more than a seed. Its the tourney that matters.

Stony Brook improves to 16-7 and 8-2 in America East by defeating the University of Hartford 54-44 in a
tough defensive game. Next game is at home 2/10 against Maine.

We're consistently playing 5 frosh and have blown some close games in the 2nd half. We need a win tonight to avoid the AEast play-in game.
To answer your question - I won't be there. Midweek games in Albany are never an option for me.

Big game at Stony Brook tonight as the Seawolves host Maine with 1st place in America East on the line. Right now it is snowing like crazy on Long Island but Maine is already here so all we need are the fans to come out tonight. Should be a good one!

Re: America East Basketball
We suck. The only thing we're even decent at is free throws. We score more points from the free throw line last night then we did from the field.
Terrible. Too bad we don't have enough money to fire our coach (1 year left on his contract) because his time is just about up.
