You gotta cook'em thoroughly. Wolves may be rare, but they should never be eaten rare.grizzaholic wrote:http://balanceduse.org/wp-content/uploa ... peworm.pdf

Re: Wolves spreading Hydatid Disease Tapeworms
I think everyone knows that you can contract numerous diseases by animals, whether by eating or touch. If we were too try and extinguish every one of these, meat and pets of any kind wouldn't exist any more. The numerous insects and pests that also spread these diseases would though.
As for the titled one well...
Hydatid Tapeworms (Echinococcosis)
Hunters and their dogs can be infected by several species of tapeworms. Echinococcus multilocularis infects rodents (including field mice), and coyotes, wolves, foxes and dogs can become infected by eating infected rodents; the worms develop in the animal's intestines, and their eggs can infect people who come into contact with the infected animal's stool (or anything, including the animal's fur, that is contaminated with stool).
Here are just a few of the diseases that YOU can get from wild game such as antelope, deer, moose, elk or your pet dog and mosquitos...
Protecting Hunters from Risk: Some Common Sense Guidelines
Diseases
· Anaplasmosis
· Avian Influenza
· Babesiosis
· Brucellosis
· Campylobacteriosis (Campylobacter jejuni)
. Catarrhal fever
· Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD)
· Cryptosporidiosis
· Deer Parapoxvirus
· Hydatid Tapeworms (Echinococcosis)
· Ehrlichiosis
· Equine Encephalitis Viruses
· Escherichia coli Infection (E. coli)
· Giardiasis
· Hantavirus
· Leptospirosis
· Lyme Disease (Lyme borreliosis)
· Plague
· Q fever
· Rabies
· Raccoon Roundworm (Baylisascaris procyonis)
· Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (tick-borne typhus fever) and other spotted fevers
· Salmonellosis (Salmonella species)
· Sarcoptic mange
· Toxoplasmosis
· Trichinellosis (trichinosis)
· Tuberculosis
· Tularemia
· West Nile Virus
Any hunters going to quite after knowing any of this? I doubt it
