NAU pulls off record rout in 68-10 win over N.M. Highlands
Lumberjacks set school standard with 752 yards of total offense in blowout.
On Friday evening when NAU coach Jerome Souers addressed fans at a pep rally, he said his team was going to be "the greatest show on turf" when it took the field the following day for its home opener against New Mexico Highlands.
Well, for one game at least, the 11th-year head coach was right on the money. The Lumberjacks set a school record racking up 752 yards of total offense and easily defeated the Division II school from Las Vegas, N.M., 68-10.
"It was amazing," senior quarterback Lance Kriesien said. "I was out of the game midway through the second quarter and to watch it just keep going and going, was amazing. We really never missed a beat.
"I knew we were putting up some big numbers, but I had no idea we set a school record. It was awesome to be a part of."
The Jacks didn't waste any time piling up the yards and putting points on the scoreboard. After the defense forced New Mexico Highlands to a three and out on its opening possession, Kriesien found senior wide receiver Skyler Moore for a 31-yard touchdown pass on the Jacks' first play from scrimmage.

records against non D-I competition shouldn't count in the record books.

To be consistent, games against PFL competition shouldn't count in the record books either...

solid win against a DII team. I guess this will help tune them up for the next few weeks to come.

Agreed - or count as D-I wins for playoffs...

Jacks have bye week, then travel to Southern Utah and then to Northern Colorado, before hosting Sac St and Portland State. Hopefully, the offense will keep clicking.

I'm really disappointed in you, travlelin. After what Sac did to Humboldt and almost pulled off on Colorado State, I sure wasn't expecting the D-II crack from YOU. NAU historically has problems with us at the Skydome.
(Unfortunately for us, the reverse is also true. I'm VERY happy our NAU game is at their place.)

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.
