What if the Grizzlies DIDN'T Make The Playoffs?
Re: What if the Grizzlies DIDN'T Make The Playoffs?
I know this is my first post but I need to clear some things up. First of all I live in Pocatello, am a Mormon and support ISU. Next, my son plays for Weber State which makes me a Weber fan! We attended the Weber-Montana game last year. We were wearing our school colors and I have to say we were treated with great respect everywhere we went. The Montana fans were great! I have to stick up for our Eastern Idaho boys though. My son went to Highland High School in Pocatello. We have played several Montana high schools and have NEVER lost to a Montana school (this tells me that ISU is letting there best talent leave and they are not recruiting the local kids). So, back to being a Pocatello resident that is a Mormon, please do not steriotype all of us and put us in the same catagory. GO WILDCATS!

Hell, I am a Montana fan and sometimes egriz makes me hate Montana .dbackjon wrote:Better yet - stay off egriz, or despite having a number of Montana fans as friends, you will end up hating Montana...SouthDakotaGrizzly wrote:

Seriously, I'm thinking of coming to Greeley next season (it's a 5 hour drive for me) so my son can witness his first Griz game. If you go to that game, I can guarantee that the gracious Griz fans will far outnumber the assholes (and every team has its assholes). Don't judge the entire fanbase by the impression you get from a few online personalities.

Good to have you here - post often!
Congrats on having your son play FCS football!
But then, how did HE get away from ISU?

I think it would be like McNeese in the Southland. They have lost their dominance in football int he league. Yes they make the playoffs every few years but they aren't running the tables like they used to.
This opened spots for other teams to shine and since then these other steams have been playing better.

Slightly off topic, but which Montana high schools? As with the BSC, there are a few that are perennial contenders and a bunch that aren't.
And dback brings up a good point....did ISU recruit your son and, if so, what was the determining factor in him choosing Weber instead? Montana does draw a lot of gems from it's high school ranks (such as Mariani and Reynolds most recently), but has also expanded it's reach. For example, this year's recruiting class includes 7 from Washington and 3 from Arizona and only 3 from Montana (plus a few walk-ons). What I'm saying is, they aren't relying on local talent alone, nor could they and continue the success they've had (that last statement would generate a LOT of discussion over on egriz ).

A couple of years back they played both Great Falls schools in one season. The first game was here at Memorial Stadium and the second was at Holt Arena. It was unusual, much windshield time up and down I-15 for all involved, and was therefore very cool. I hope they do it again.SouthDakotaGrizzly wrote:. . . Re: What if the Grizzlies DIDN'T Make The Playoffs?
I sense here a vast degree of hyperbole. Personally, in going to games in Bozeman, Cheney and as well, Pocatello, I strive to maintain a low profile. Who wouldn't? Around that neck of the woods in Pocatello where Reid Gymnasium and Holt Arena are?..in that part of town?.. are you kidding me?..who wouldn't or else? Good natured?...yeah, right, if the locals sense that you're a local as well, perhaps. Humility? That's always something to have recourse to, I guess, a kind of an intangible some 'snobberly of the underling' comes up with in order to assauge their wounded pride. As if ISU had any pride at the time with their losing streak and sensed an impossibly thought of beforehand victory due to unforeseen turnovers and pathetic refereeing during a game that they weren't even close with otherwise, one could easily sense that of the audience before game time besides; playing a game on the worst playing surface in modern day America no less. Tell me, just how many Bengal players went down with injuries in that game? Quit beating a dead horse. Your arrogant insinuations 'as if' you deserve better are ridiculous, insofar as your constant harping 'as if' ISU was a 'better team' and your remarks are no better than some wounded victim; you play more as a victimizer than a victim anyway. get over yourself. The game has been played, the season is over, wait till next year why don't you. Geez. Talk about 'sour grapes.' Even worse from someone that hasn't barely won a game in three years no less. What was it?..one victory (OT against Sacramento St.) in the last twenty games or so losing streak at the time? You're really sick, dude, really, really, sick.Sapper wrote:In my 30 years in Pocatello I have met few Montana fans that I can stand. Last year it is a good thing that ISU fans are so good natured. After the game UM fans were way to out of control and rude is this what happens when they drink I don’t know? If you are in school colors with face paint and all don’t be an ass. If it had been other people not football fans I think that they would have literally got the crap kicked out of them for being a$$ wholes in Pocatello.
Your threats and duplicities don't impress me, so-called "good-natured" Begal fan.

If I remember right the two schools they played were CR Russell and another one from Billings. I dont remember for sure though. My point is just that Eastern Idaho does have some great athletes. It just seams that ISUs opinion of our local kids is that they are just not good enough. They would rather go out of state I guess. The problem with that is you never build a fan base. Suprisingly, Pocatello is a huge football school. Highland High School has played in 7 of the last 10 state championship games at the 5A level and have on 3. Poky High has had the same kind of success at the 4A level. Last year Highland played Grant Union out of California and only lost 35-21. Not bad considering they won the California State Championship and was ranked #4 in the country at the end of the year. If I was ISU I would have 75% of my kids Idaho athletes. At least going 1-11 would be with your own stock.
As far as my son goes, ISU really never made a push for him. He went to several of their camps and we sent them highlight films and e-mails and called them. They never showed any interest until he had allready committed to Weber. I am not sure if it would have made a difference anyway. He was offered by MSU and several D2s and was a preferred walk on at BSU. Weber has great coaches and they are trying to build a real program. Maybe ISU was full at O-line.
