So, has winthrop, high point, radford, or UNC-Ashville thought about putting a football program in place? They need to.

It would be nice to see this sitting on a press conference booth real soon. Even better to see it on a field.
Re: Campbell to Big South
Years ago UNC-Asheville considered it. I think at one point there was a committe. That might've been UNC-Wilmington now that I think about it.DKHardee wrote:So, has winthrop, high point, radford, or UNC-Ashville thought about putting a football program in place? They need to.

I'm pretty sure that was UNC Wilmington. I doubt people at UNCA would even know what a football is.

Ok...just spoke with my sister in laws husband (he's food service director for UNCW) he says there is no real pursuit at this time.AppinVA wrote:Ibanez wrote:

The President of Winthrop wants football, but knows his school can't afford it at the moment. Maybe 3-5 years down the road, but not right now.

Is there any timeline as of how long Stony Brook plans to be an Asso. Member? I would hate to lose them.

I believe they are committed through 2012, but realistically, until a better (i.e. more local) full-schollie option opens.DKHardee wrote:Is there any timeline as of how long Stony Brook plans to be an Asso. Member? I would hate to lose them.

They have indicated that they plan to stick out the contract even if they find a new full membership somewhere else. Who knows what the landscape will look like by the time this contract ends?

Re: Campbell to Big South
I respectfully disagree. Digorgio doesn't really want football. He only had a study done because so many people have been pressing him about it over the years. They don't need a stadium because District 3 is just down the street and installed field turf 2 years ago, complete up grade. Place is nice. They could work out a deal with the school district and I'm sure they could get it cheap since our Distict is cutting jobs right now to meet the budget shortfalls. If there were ever a time to do it, it would be now. I know the fans would support it because this is a football crazy town. Don't think it will ever happen though as long as Digorgio is Pres.g-webb1994 wrote:The President of Winthrop wants football, but knows his school can't afford it at the moment. Re: Campbell to Big South
Winthrop would have major Title IX issues due to their heavy female enrollment. The only real imeptus for them adding football would to become the de facto home college team for Charlotte. With UNCC adding a program that has been taken off the table for the Eagles.
As for Radford, it is a HUGE step from club football to NCAA Division I. There is no indication that their administration has any interest in adding another doormat program at their school (yeah, I know they finally are decent in hoops once again ... but not for long).

Re: Campbell to Big South
Adding football would get 100+ more males on campus. I also think that for a number of men, a college not having a football team is a major reason NOT to go there.
I have never understood why Title IX only addresses athletic disparities. Why doesn't it look at the overall disparity? Obviously, women are getting a lot more academic schollarships at Winthrop than men. Shouldn't Winthrop be REQUIRED to recruit more men in order to get the population more equal to the overall population?

Re: Campbell to Big South
Too bad it wasn't as easy as the Socon private schools going to the Big South and the Big south publics going to the SoCon:
Socon (all public schools)
* App St.
* Chattanooga
* Citadel
* Georgia southern
* Western Carolina
* Coastal Carolina
* VMI
~ Winthrop
~ Charleston
~ UNC-Greensboro
~ UNC-Ashville
~ Radford
~ Campbell
One error here is that Campbell is private not public...

Our contract is good through the 2011 season. I would hope and expect we renew for at least 4 more years because I dont see any major changes in any conferences in the Northeast including the CAA. I personally like seeing us playing in the Big South.DKHardee wrote:Is there any timeline as of how long Stony Brook plans to be an Asso. Member? I would hate to lose them.
Re: Campbell to Big South
High Point thought about it, but the only talks were to have a DIII team. They have no intentions of adding football, at least the last time I looked into things... UNCA doesn't know what a football is, and having a lot of men in tight pants on campus is found in class, not on a football team. Winthrop should, and I'm going to say will, eventually have a football program, simply so they can be douches at some other sport. RU should get one, but I don't know if they will.DKHardee wrote:So, has winthrop, high point, radford, or UNC-Ashville thought about putting a football program in place? They need to.

Average record of the teams they beat?
2.57-7.7...so 3-8...
