Re: Gardner-Webb Recruiting - 2010
hawkswife - don't get your undies in a wad. I was just basing my comment on an earlier post in this thread which stated that Cam had verbally committed to GWU then switched to PC. Thereafter the Augusta Chronicle article indicated that Cam was switching from PC to Howard. I don't harbor any ill will towards Cam or any other recruit. My only point was that some kids, a few who are at GWU verbally committed and stuck with their commitments even though they had other unexpected offers come in late. What is factual is that commitment clearly means different things to different players. I'll take your word that Cam is an excellent person as well as a football player otherwise he wouldn't have had the opportunities that came his way. For what it's worth, GWU's current recruiting class turned out pretty well and for that I'm a happy Runnin Bulldog.
Re: Gardner-Webb Recruiting - 2010
Too late EagleDawg...my undies are in a wad!!! Why are you so concerned with Cam and where he decides to go to college? AGAIN, he NEVER committed to GWU and with fans like you in their corner I think that may have been a good idea for him and any of the other recruits that decided to go somewhere else. You crossed the line when you made negative comments about him backing out of two previous committments when that information was completely false. Where any recruit decides to go is totally up to him and his family. Therefore, if that means changing a verbal committment to somewhere else, then so be it. There are MANY reasons why someone would change their mind so deal with it...it happens!!! Also, just in case you hadn't realized it yet "you happy Runnin Bulldog" GWU is NOT going to be the place everyone wants to spend their next 4 - 5 years...so deal with that too and move on with your life. FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH, I wish GWU nothing but success in their upcoming season. They have some good coaches in their corner. I only wish I could say the same about their fans.

Re: Gardner-Webb Recruiting - 2010
hawkswife - Why are you lurking on a GWU recruiting thread when your player verbally committed to PC, withdrew his verbal commitment and signed with Howard. I'm not concerned with Cam, he just happened to be a recruit who was mentioned under a GWU recruiting thread that didn't honor a commitment/pledge whether it was to GWU or PC. I would have had the same reaction about any young man even my own son who plays at GWU. So nothing personal. If you take a different view that men can make pledges or commitments and then change their minds and not suffer the scrutiny of other men then that's your right. I believe otherwise and have stated so. I wish Cam well, now please get about the business of de-wadding, life's too short, spring's around the corner and before too long, you'll hopefully be making the trek to DC to see Cam take the field.

Re: Gardner-Webb Recruiting - 2010
and the procrastination continues lol. u both bring up good points. im a littlemore partial to the "if you say you're gonna do something then do it." same concept with commitments but THATS JUST MY OPINION. not bashing anyone wutsoever. BUT i noticed ur a fan of troy. we got a RB/WR transfer from you at liberty this yr any idea why he transferred? i just assumed it was cuz theres prob better running backs and he wont get playing time much there or maybe he wanted to be at a Christian university. just me thinkin. any idea why tho?

Re: Gardner-Webb Recruiting - 2010
I'm for a kid changing his verbal if a family health situation arises or the school did something or changed something such as the level of scholarship offer, change in head or position coach or recruited you for one position but then changed their mind (i.e. QB to DB) prior to signing day. To me the school makes the offer and the kid can either accept or decline or defer at his risk until Signing Day but I believe the school's generally recruit in good faith and the recruits should reciprocate. There is no harm in a recruit telling a school he's interested but is not ready to commit and that allows the school to continue recruiting to fill that spot. What if the shoe had been on the other foot. I wonder what HawksWife view would be if the kid had maintained his verbal even turning down other offers only to see the school he had committed to change their mind and the player being left holding the bag as other offers from other schools had been shifted to other players. It's important for all of these young men to realize this opportunity is a two-way, not one-way street and respect those who respected them enough to offer to pay for a portion or all of their education. The games should be played on the field not outside the lines.

Re: Gardner-Webb Recruiting - 2010
I agree 100% Eagledawg. When a kid commits then that should be the end of it unless there are some very strong circumstances. Thus the word "Commitment". My kid committed early and made it clear he was shutting down the recruiting circus. I told him before he did it to be damn sure that is where he wanted to be because he wasn't backing out if something bigger came along. I don't like early commitments because they are not worth 2 cents. Who knows how many kids don't get an offer because some other kid has committed but is still playing the game behind the scenes. I think you should have to sign some kind of document when you commit and that you are bound to that commitment unless there are circumstances which would truly justify de-committing.

Watch it BigDogPop, some on here might associate you with the GWU Fan Base which was identified as a group who was not worthy of cheering for some GWU recruiting targets. I get the strong sense we have encountered a momma here and no matter the validity, clarity or vigor in which we present our case, a momma will fight to the death even when she's wrong. You gotta like that about moms, at least most of the time! If you want to get a little more flavor on this , you ought to check out some posts on the PC Board. One could conclude from those posts that momma is maybe a bit more involved than just trying to protect the son from a wee bit of criticism. If that is the case, GWU wins here. Can you see it, why ain't my boy playing, you ain't giving my boy the ball enough, why is my boy's locker over there, why did you call that play, well you get the picture. Trouble is we had a few of those types last season and they weren't mommas, they weren't even women. My one wish is that all (Players, Coaches, Parents, Fans, Administration, Alumni, etc.) agree to be all in 100% during the season. When the season is over, then you comment/criticize/adjust. A big wish, but it's my wish none the less.

kountryboi - did you make it down to the Liberty game at GWU last fall? If so, you gotta admit we gave you guys one hell of a game thru the first 2 1/2 quarters. Unfortunately for our Runnin Bulldogs, the game is 4 quarters and The Flames performed for all 4 that day. We'll be there, how's the Stadium Renovations going, any updated pics?

Re: Gardner-Webb Recruiting - 2010
Gotta have some inexperienced players step in to some key spots (QB, DT, S,) but these kids have talent, they just have to play within themselves and the Runnin Bulldogs should be fine. Conference road schedule is tough next year with games at LU, Stony Brook and Charleston Southern but to be top dog you gotta beat the top dog(s). One thing I'm certain of, the Big South is getting better each year, the question is are they catching up in a meaningful way to the top FCS conferences. Those teams don't just tread water so the improvement has to be better for the Big South. Time will tell and it will tell this season as the automatic bid into the playoffs will give the conference a chance to earn some respect. PC will get better, VMI lost a lot of key pieces, CCU you figure has to return to it's winning ways, LU and Stony Brook proved they were top dogs last season and CSU and GWU gotta grab wins against one or both of those two and win their head to head match-up to have a shot.

Re: Gardner-Webb Recruiting - 2010
BulldogDad - Yeah, I checked the PC site out and if even a 1/3 of what was posted is true then you gotta feel a bit for the kid. If momma is calling the shots then it's hard to know when the kid will become a man and until he becomes a man his success on the field at the collegiate level will likely be limited because he's now playing a man's game. Not much suckling takes place on the gridiron. When you reach college it's time as we use to say on the farm to get off the teet.
Re: Gardner-Webb Recruiting - 2010
I for one will be looking forward to the trip to Liberty next year. Got to give their fans credit, they had way more fans in the away side than any other team we played last year. As for hawkswife, give it up lady - the only three posts you ever made in your life on this site are made to defend Cam. We all know who you are. Hope the poor kid is able to thrive several hundreds of miles from your apron strings. He would have loved Gardner-Webb by the way.

To all my fellow Runnin Bulldog Fans, you gotta love how ElCid83 can be so succint. I wonder by what training and profession he comes by those wonderful traits? I love the apron strings metaphor. Sharp, witty, point on in so few words = succint!

BTW my GW brethren, I got to watch Cam play basketball today against my Aiken High Fighting Green Hornets. He is a player and I wonder if he is going to play a little round ball at Howard U in addition to football. He was 4-4 with 2 3 pointers at halftime and he is solidly built. Don't know if he could catch a pass or not, but he would have been good at WR or DB.

Re: Gardner-Webb Recruiting - 2010
Heck 4-4 and two 3's in one half could earn him a b-ball scholly to UNC the way the Heels are stinking it up this season. If not for lowly NC State, the Heels would only have 1 conference win so far.
