JD Heyworth announces challenge to McCain in Primary

Post by dbackjon »

Former Arizona Congressman J.D. Hayworth on Monday officially announced his much-talked-about Republican primary challenge to incumbent GOP Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.

Hayworth, a well-known critic of illegal immigration, was joined at the hourlong event in northeast Phoenix by political allies such as Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, State Sen. Majority Leader Chuck Gray, R-Mesa, and state Sen. Ron Gould, R-Lake Havasu City.

A surprise came with the endorsement from Chris Simcox, the founder of the border-watch group Minuteman Civil Defense Corps who on Monday withdrew from the Senate race and threw his support to Hayworth. Simcox previously had expressed frustration that the speculation about Hayworth's looming bid had dried up his fundraising. He also was under pressure from Hayworth supporters not to be a spoiler.

"We must secure our borders, and we can trust J.D. to protect and defend our Constitution," Simcox said. "J.D. knows why we must protect our borders, our communities, and enforce our laws and I'm proud to work beside him."

"Way to go, Chris!" yelled someone in the crowd.

Simcox never got much traction in the primary race, stalling at around 4 percentage points in recent polls. Conservative Jim Deakin also is a candidate in the primary.

How is Hayworth's being 100% scum, different from McCain's being 100% scum? :)

McCain is way over his shelf life and could expire literally at any moment, it would be surprising if somebody didn't challenge the senile old duffer....... sittin' there drooling in his cream of wheat...... :coffee:

He's more lucid and intelligent than most of Congress. Granted, that bar is set pretty low.

If McCain really loved this country like he says he does he would get the fu*k out of congress.

McCain is the one guy on both sides of the isle that needs to be put down for our own good.
