Obama is just sad, this country is best when it is pushing itself into new frontiers. He will gladly spend billions for some cockamamie high speed train but won't give NASA a few billion to put manned space flight on solid ground for the foreseeable future. Instead he just outsourced something we have dominated to China and Russia, what a loser.
Unfortunately the newest frontiers are social and economic collapse. JFK would be singing a different tune if he were taking office today.

Because I would like to see smaller government and lower taxes; unlike the so-called conservatives around here, I don't believe that the way to achieve those goals is to give the miliary everything they want plus more they don't and cut only "social spending".

I don't see NASA having many options other than scaling back the manned programs and focusing on bang for the buck.
Not that I support the existence of DHS... but what does losing DHS have to do with the military budget?

Name me one conservative...hell find me one POST by a "so-called conservative" here that advocates that. :ohno: :ohno: :ohno:

CID, the real reason he wants to see the DHS disbanded was because it's a Republican invention. Had a dem invented it, he'd be all over it like stink on shit.

It doesn't, I was referring to the attitude of many on the right that the only spending cuts on the table are non-military. Those type of folks tended to support the creation of the DHS and other nonsense like the Patriot Act. Vaporizing the DOE and the DHS would be a nice bi-partisan move while getting rid of two of the more useless of the bloated government agencies. What all those civil servants will do for food and shelter is another question.

Yeah. I was pretty sure you couldn't find any posts to back up your assinine statement of "conservatives on here" who feel a certain way.

Apology accepted. :ohno: :ohno:

Actually, most of "those types of folks" did not necessarily support the formation of DHS. It was one of the primary recommendations of the 9-11 commission in their final report, and Bush followed their advice. The few raised eyebrows over this issue came from the right. Rightly so, as we simply created another bureaucracy and another budget turf war.

I think it would be more accurate to say that "those types of folks" kept their mouths shut because they had no balls in 2001-2002, rather than that "those types of folks" supported the spending. As for the left, DHS represented more gummint, which dovetailed much more nicely with their M.O.

Must be different where you live. Here in the Heartland the righties were solidly behind the DHS, the Patriot Act, and Freedom Fries. It was the lefties that were squealing about yet another government assault on The Bill of Rights.

There were crickets chirping where it mattered- in Congress.

True dat. Gutless phvcks, one and all.

I think we should disband the Senate, let each state draw two names from phone books at random, and try again.
