In the Big Sky, only top 6 of the 9 teams make it. First Round games are played at the 3 and 4 seed home arenas. Semi-finals and finals are at the Regular Season Champs' home.

Notice the note about Davidson at the bottom:

Apparently it's because Golden State and Curry are in town to play the Bobcats Saturday night. Everything about the Southern Conference is completely bush league.

Also the SoCon wants to avoid the possibility of Davidson playing Friday night then Saturday afternoon thus creating "an unfair advantage" to their opponents.

According to the likely scenarios, this would force App from the 2:00 pm slot on Saturday to the 9:15 pm slot and thus a different Session, which would require a different ticket, which is bush league all because Davidson fans want to see Curry.

Things will be different for the Big West this year due to the presence of a 9th team (UC Davis). The top 8 will play vice EVERYONE in the recent past.

Final (Televised)

UC Santa Barbara (9-3) and UOP (8-3) look to be pretty solid for the top 2 spots, though the order may change before March. Long Beach State, UC Davis, and Cow Poly are currently tied in slots 4-6 at 6-6 and #3 UC Foolerton is 7-5, so those look for a wild finish. CS Northridge, UC Irvine, and UC Riverside will fight over the last two spots, but who knows? This season looks like the ultimate in parity....

Incidentally, this could be the first season in ages where EVERYONE has double-digit overall wins. The three worst teams in conference in terms of overall wins all have 9.

Things are a bit different on the girls' side. CS Northridge and UOP are tied for a DISTANT 8th at 2-9 and stand in danger of missing the conference tournament. UOP is up a game head-to-head; the two teams face off 6 MAR to close out the season. A UOP win would clearly seal the bid should there be a tie; a split opens up a can of worms. All spots over this last one seem up for grabs.

In the SWAC the top 8 make the tourney which is being held in Shreveport for the first time. Southern (barring any kind of amazing run) and Alcorn will miss the tourney. It'll be Southern's first time missing the conference tourney. Hard to believe they were league champs wire to wire 4 years ago.

Big South has top eight teams advance to tourney. Top four seeds host quarterfinal games on campus on Tuesday, March 2. #1 seed overall gets right to host semifinals on Thursday, March 4. Final is held, on campus, of highest remaining seed on Saturday, March 6.

The Big South womens tourney is held 100% at High Point University over a three day period Friday-Sunday, March 12-14, which makes a heckuva lot more sense IMHO.

No, its because there is no real leadership in marketing this conference in the conf. office. Just because that was then (the last time that format was used was 1994, that's about a generation ago). Something needs to change with the conference tourney, generate excitement. With the way its run, there is nothing to get excited about this tourney...the status quo is simply not working!!

What's worse is that then if the reg season champ loses in the semis, the attendance for the final has been terrible (see 2009, 2005, 2002, 2000, 1997) and its really looks bad on ESPN (our one and only game a year on the WWL).
