How much should this person make?
What would you say a person in charge of the following should make?
$100,000,000 budget
5,000 employees
30 different properties to maintain
15,000 clients
Inquiring minds want to know.

Is it a for-profit enterprise?
If so, what kind of margin is the company achieving?

$250-$350 is what I was thinking too. I'm not sure about bonus structures in not-for-profits really.bobbythekidd wrote:$350,000 with a SWEET bonus structure.

$500,000 with incentives in contract if the person increases donations to the organization.

I'm editing my own guess. I misread the budget as being $10 million, not $100 million.
Something in the $500-$750 range seems more appropriate.

Re: How much should this person make?
Okay, this person is the Superintendent of Public Schools in the Billings area. The board is currently looking to replace the Jack Copps who is retiring after this school year.
Everybody was $250,000 and up except for the cheapass Alpha ($137,000).
The school board set the new salary between $140,000 - $165,000 per year, which is below or at the very most matches the regional average. So in reality they are going cheap. The public reaction has been very negative saying it is a waste of money. I think it is a sad indicator of the lack of support for schools in my hometown.
I guess we should hire some shmoe off of the street for $30,000 a year and call it good.

No different than any other school district. In my area Superintendent's are making about $200,000. Underpaid IMO, especially having to deal with the teacher's union.hank scorpio wrote:Okay, this person is the Superintendent of Public Schools in the Billings area. What's the enrollment in Billings? A $100 million seems very high.

Re: How much should this person make?
It's a rough situation with people wanting to pay guys in these positions and teachers for that matter. I know Jack personally and Billings is losing a real good man with his departure. Hopefully you guys can get a guy that wants to do the job because he is motivated by community/Montana pride because the pay isn't gonna be overwhelming by any means.hank scorpio wrote:Okay, this person is the Superintendent of Public Schools in the Billings area. Re: How much should this person make?
I don't have a problem paying a Supt really good money. My problem is most of them then go & hire about 20 Asst Supt's at 60k+car+living allowance....it's the bureacracy associated with school systems that manifests in anger towards a Supt's pay IMO...I mean, with all of the Asst Supt that a large school system has, what are we paying the Supt for? Would rather see the money go to teachers & Principals on the front line....

That's why it is too bad that Jack is leaving. He realized long ago the there was a big push back from voters and communities against new bond issues and taxes so he got involved trying to fix the waste or the perceived waste in the school districts after a long career in education and his first retirement. A guy like him is what you would want in that position.Appaholic wrote:I don't have a problem paying a Supt really good money. By the way, that is a government entity and not a not-for-profit.

Obviously this wouldn't apply here, but I'm on the board for our local symphony and our Exec. Dir. position has a bonus structure based on new donations brought in, with the caveat that the donations have to be traced back to the work of the director. Pretty difficult to do and, IMO, not worth for our smallish non-profit (less than 1,000,000 budget). But that's what we do.
