CAA LAX

Post by Col Hogan »

Lacrosse season starts this month...the preseason CAA picks are out...
RICHMOND, Va. (Jan. 27, 2010) -- Hofstra, which finished last season with an unblemished league mark of 6-0, is picked to win the 2010 CAA Men's Lacrosse Championship according to a vote conducted by all six league coaches. The Pride, which picked up five of the possible six first-place votes, edged out second-place Massachusetts in the poll.

The Minutemen, along with Penn State, will be CAA Men's Lacrosse newcomers following a league realignment prior to the 2010 season. The league's coaches also selected Hofstra junior attacker Jay Card to repeat as the CAA's Preseason Player of the Year.

Hofstra, already ranked No. 10 in the Inside Lacrosse/Faceoff Yearbook preseason poll and picked as the league favorites in the same publication, finished four points in front of CAA-newcomer Massachusetts. The Minutemen, shown at No. 18 in the Faceoff Yearbook, logged one first-place vote and finished with a total of 21 points.

The CAA is a very solid conference this year with the addition of UMass and Penn State.
The days of walking through the league are over for Towson.

Why doesn't ODU have a mens lacrosse team? I know they have a WLAX team.
"Elaine, you're from Baltimore, right?"
"Yes, well, Towson actually."

Towson hasn't won the conference since 2005 - the days of Towson walking through the league have been over for half a decade!

Interesting. You're right. They've made the post season twice in those last 5 years though. Towson plays a rough OOC schedule, Hopkins, Loyola, Maryland, UVa, Navy and Princeton. I've always thought that Towson makes the post season because of the lame confernce play. Delaware and Nova have both vastly improved their programs in the last 2-3 years. I like the conference the way it looks, most notabley without RMU and Sacred heart.

Yup, and even Drexel lacrosse has gotten good as well. Through Hofstra in there (pretty sure nova is gone to the Big East, no?) and it's a top to bottom very good conference. Without RMU and Sacred Heart there are no patsies anymore either.

I think they were pretty solid for a fairly new program against current CAA teams last year.

Penn State W 12-11 2ot
@ Towson L 9-11
@ Hofstra L 5-11
Drexel W 11-10
Delaware L 10-12

Ah, nothing better than lacrosse with an 8' snow bank surrounding the field:

That's undefeated Delaware taking out #12 UMBC over the weekend, btw. :thumb:

The next trip to Baltimore is to face Hopkins tomorrow (on the U at 5pm). Yikes.

Delaware LAX will christen the new FieldTurf in The Tub versus Albany on March 6th, and will also host games in The Tub vs Stony Brook (Mar 16), Nova (Mar 20), Vermont (Mar 27), UMass (Apr 17), and Drexel (Apr 24 under the lights).

Have you looked at the ESPNU LAX schedule???

Someone loves Towson...

UMass vs. Ohio State this Saturday, not on ESPNU...

Yeah three tv games. Only reason the Hopkins game won't be on local channel 2 is because it's a Wednesday night game. ABC2 usually has one or two games on Saturday afternoons.

I count four mens games on ESPNU...and one women's game...pretty good exposure for the Tigers...

March 13, at Maryland
March 21, Virginia at Towson
March 28 at Loyola
April 28 at Johns Hopkins

plus March 10, Towson women at Johns Hopkins...

Not bad at all...

The UMass at Ohio State men's lacrosse game scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 27 at 12 noon will not be played. The Minutemen were unable to travel to Columbus due to the weather conditions in the East. It is unlikely the game will re-scheduled. UMass' next game will be on March 5 at Yale at 7 p.m.
