I don't give a shit about Tiger. Golf should be banned from TV for wasting electricity anyway.
Does anyone really believe his wife didn't know about this before? As many women as he was banging I can't believe she didn't have some idea this was going on. I think it is more likely she found out the story was going to leak and that's when she started to kick the crap out of him.

Re: Tiger?
You're right. However, the fact that Tiger actually admitted to this -- that he has a sense of arrogant entitlement and that he thought that the rules that apply to others didn't apply to him -- makes his statement (at least for me) something more than the run-of-the-mill mea culpa from the famous celebrity seeking to rehabilitate a public image.AZGrizFan wrote:Tiger is the poster-child for pampered athletes:

The usual statement includes an admission of wrongdoing with a promise to be better in the future. But also including such a candid admission that you did what you did because you thought you were better and more important than everyone else is remarkable. What other famous person has ever made such a confession in their apology statement. I can't think of any. That type of statement can only result from a level of self-critical evaluation.
Maybe Tiger actually gets it now? (Not guaranteed, of course).

Tiger sounded like a fucking robot. He went and got "programmed" to say all the right things. I'm not sure he actually believes them. He was very robotic in his delivery. He looked like a Manson girl up there....

Tiger has always been robotic. I wouldn't hold that against him yesterday.
Of course, you're right that there's no way of knowing that he actually accepts what he said. But the fact that he said it -- "I thought that I was better than others and above the rules" --is still unusually candid. Maybe he meant it; but he did say it.

Re: Tiger?
I never really cared one way or another about Tiger, but after this apology he is a spineless coward that caved to the PC bullsh*t this country is famous for.
All you guys that say "he had to if he wanted to be a spokesman" are fu*king wrong.
If Tiger never apologized and then went out and won 9 straight golf tournaments all would have been forgotten and the sponsors would be forced to play by his terms not the other way around.

Re: Tiger?
Don't watch golf or know much about it, but remember seeing a sports news clip with Tiger going off on some fan who snapped a camera or made some little noise. That right there makes him a whining pussy. Someone makes a little noise, who cares. Just ignore it and hit that little white ball.Ursus A. Horribilis wrote:I did hear it on a radio show today that was making fun of it while it played so that made it enjoyable to listen to.Grizo406 wrote:Apology accepted, Tiger!
I would have liked it a lot better if he would have said, "to all the golfer's I play against, "you're welcome!"...now, you might have a chance to win a few tournaments while I'm getting my personal life together."
After the apology, it was reported that on Twitter, John Daly said "where's your wedding ring, Tiger?"
A bit cold, but a pretty good question none the less.![]()
Lost respect for him though caving to give this apology to people in his personal life via a news conference. What a groveling pussy.

Re: Tiger?
My guess is that Tiger has reached the point in his "12-step" rehabilitation process at which he must admit to those affected by his behavior that he accepts sole blame and responsibility for his conduct and to apologize to them. Since Tiger is a public figure, and all his fans are arguably affected by his actions, he needed to this publicly, especially for the benefit of children who might have viewed him as a role model.Col Hogan wrote:Or maybe his handlers believe he had to say that...and they convinced Tiger to do it...

That's why this was a statement and not really a news conference. It's my guess, but it would be consistent with the half-way point of a 12-step process. You spend the first half of the process examining your conduct and its causes and the second half, once you have acknowledged fault, trying to improve your conduct.

Re: Tiger?
If anyone thinks Tiger wrote his own apology without help from his agent and a host of others, then there is a bridge I'd like to sell you.
All of the public apologies, from the President on down to your college superstar, are first scrutinized and rewritten by handlers and professional publicists/pollsters so that the masses are spoon fed their slop...and the masses eat it up right on cue.
Tiger's wife should divorce him, take his money, and then show up on every tour in skimpy clothes with a different 18 year old stud each day.

This goes well before the scandal: I would rather watch 30-year-old footage of The Golden Bear than Woods.

Tiger went to sex rehab to get himself straight, when in all actuality, getting straight too often is what usually got him in trouble

Perhaps by Ursus and Alpha logic, even if Tigers didn't rekindle his connections with his old sponsors, him and John Daly could tag team some commercials with some companies who care less about their public perception.

Can you imagine how much business these two could get Hooters if they tag teamed a commercial???

Yes, Daly is actually sponsored by Hooters

Troof. I appreciate a guy that lives his life apologetically and has some fun. Tiger made the mistake when he said his vows and he owes an apology to ONLY those involved and the fact that the rest of the fans think they are somehow involved is a fucking joke.JMU DJ wrote:Ursus A.
