#1. Ursus, they have you by the balls, The Conf heads dont issue a release for 'bad calls', they MUST feel EWU really won the game & the officials GAVE it to the home team. If you are a real man you would concede defeat.

Hey Dough Nuts they don't have me by anything cuz as I've said on multiple occasions now...yes they got screwed on those two calls...what the hell is wrong with you guys? Oh, I get...you SOB's been fucking with me on that. :lol:

You fuckers got me good on that one...can't believe I fell for that ol' banana in the tailpipe trick.

Anyhoo, more importantly BF, WHAT IS THE NAME ON THAT AVATAR HONEY?

Oh, and far as this one goes...I haven't disagreed with the bolded part yet and have said multiple times the EWU, The Cats, & UM will be on equal footing this year most likely looking at it right now. Weber could also be right in that mix. With that many STRONG teams in the mix it would be hard to pin the BSC on one team with and amount of certainty.

Why do we have such a communication problem on this?

Oh, cry me a frickin' river. Before this year, Idaho's last 4 stellar years went something like this: 2-9, 4-8, 1-11, 2-10. WSU's last 4 years have been 6-6, 5-7, 2-11 and 1-11. Gonzaga doesn't even PLAY football.

We could ALL use some "competition" like that. :roll: :roll: :roll:
Not cryin at all. Given the challenges, I'm proud and amazed at how competitive we are.

Wazzu goes 1-11, and still draws EWU alumn down to Pullman for every home game. I know more than a few of them personally -some of which never attended an EWU game when they we're in school - but now chant "go cougs" and consider themselves college football fans.

And regardless of record or sport, we still have to compete with Idaho football and GU hoops for not only fans, but contributions and media coverage.

Like I've said before, put a PAC 10 school in Florence, and WAC school in Hamilton then get back to me about competition.

Like it or not it's a reality.

The Gonzaga upper crust are NOT the same wheat farmers that send their kids to Wazzu and Idaho. And bitch all you want, but in this case the Pac 10 school ain't in Florence, it's in St. Regis, and it takes longer to get to BOZEMAN than it does to get to Moscow. By the way, it's 1:49 minutes from Spokane to WSU. It's about 2:15 minutes from Spokane to Wa/Griz stadium. It's 2:05 from Spokane to the Kibbie Dome. So, they're in OUR back yard too.

Maybe instead of hosting a dinner, get Cowherd to open his wallet. Better yet, get your most famous alum, Todd MacFarlane, to open his GIGANTIC wallet and do what Denny Washington did. MacFarlane has more money than GOD, and the state of the art stadium is what kick-started the phenomenon that IS Griz football. :nod: :nod: :nod:

I don't disagree with your bottom paragraph at all, and I believe EWU has been making a very aggressive push toward big donors like McFarlane, Stuckey, Roos, and Cowherd who is already a contributor and from what I've heard is opening up his wallet quite nicely for the current project. As for facilities, coaching, recruiting, and winning we are moving in the right direction.

But I would also add marketing to that mix which is something we are terrible at and where money helps out a bunch. Every bar, restaurant, convenience store, and strip joint in missoula has Griz memorabilia and signage. The most popular bar in Cheney has nothing EWU. The athletic department has trouble springing for enough calendars to distibute even in their own town. Go to a sports store in Spokane and in order it's GU, WSU, Idaho, Montana apparel, and if you're really lucky maybe an EWU hat or two - although typically not.

But the fact remains that EWU, Gonzaga, WSU, and Idaho all compete for fans, media attention, corporate sponsors, and to a lessor extent donations within the Inland Empire market. Montana is only in our backyard in regards to recruiting. When Missoula car dealerships start sponsoring GU basketball, and Red's offers a bus to Pullman for cougar home games you can you say otherwise.

Not at all. I'll even go on to say there are at least two Griz bars here in Spokane, and I believe one in Seattle and Phoenix.

That doesn't change the fact that EWU is located in a more competitive market than the Griz. :coffee:

I've got a couple of different sets of friends that drive from Spokane & Coeur d'Alene every weekend to go to the Griz games instead of the games in the market you're speaking of. If you get a competitive product then the market becomes less formidable.

At this point in time, UM has a more popular program, so its expected that A FEW Spokane residents might head out that way. But Eastern is IN Spokane county, 15-20 from downtown Spokane baby, & it wont be long (when EWU gets their marketing skills together) before EWU has AT LEAST at 51% football lock on spokane.

IMHO this is how it is in Spokane today;
Out of 100% of Spokane residents that attend football games higher than high school.

28% Spokane Shock
21% Washignton State
15% Eastern Washington
10% Idaho
9 % Montana
5 % Whitworth
12% Willing to support all

Eastern should be able to control at least 51% of the Spokane market. In order to do this they need to continue the upgrade & marketing path.

If you (as you readily admit) are competing against a team that's located over 200 miles away, then the issue is NOT "the market". The issue is "the product". You've got a city of 225,000 less than 10 miles away and they'd rather drive 2 hours to see a 1-11 team play, or drive 2 1/2 hours to see ANOTHER FCS team play, than 10 minutes to see your product. If the GRIZ are out-marketing you, perhaps its because of an inferior product.

We always hear that one of the big reasons for the Griz success is because they have no competition. Apparently they're doing BETTER THAN YOU IN YOUR OWN MARKET! :lol: :lol: :lol:

Lets put that idea to rest and try and spend your precious energy on what REALLY matters....improving the PRODUCT. And that AIN'T gonna happen by changing the color of the field. :rofl:

And hire you as CHIEF blogger/telling others how it will be. Right? That is because you played the game, have rings to show for it, and are never wrong?

Looks about right doesnt it? ;)

Az, I know you are smart enough to realize that when 5,000 fans support a good team in a stadium that looks like this;

And you (from '04-'10) upgrade that very old stadium with;
New state of the art press box & suites
New state of the art locker room & athletic training facilities
New state of the art scoreboard with (first time in school history) video board
New state of the art 'RED' playing surface (which, you must understand, was the stadiums' #1 downfall)
New North endzone permanant seating
New stadium signage & championship banners.
New marketing strategies to reach the Spokane market as well as EWU alums.

That it will increase attendance as well as support. Im not saying that Woodward is better than WG stadium, but dont get mad when Eastern starts to SLOWLY close the gap. Also don't get mad when you see Eastern in Frisco winnin that NC trophy either.

All good things and I've said many times on this board that I really like EWU and if their game day atmosphere was to take a couple of ticks up the scale it would be one of better places to watch an FCS game.

I don't think you could find many (if any) Griz fans that would be disappointed with EWU hoisting a NC tropy as long it wasn't won against us.
