Er, I meant Go Slovaks! I've never been keen on the difference since they split.
What's the difference anyway? Did Bill Czecho and Monica Slovakia get a divorce or something?

Is that one of those events where the top two teams advance, and then the rest of the teams also advance because they got screwed by the top tow teams during the race?93henfan wrote:USA just upset the gold medal favorite Canada team in the quarterfinals of women's team pursuit speedskating.
Re: 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics Thread
Nope - not short track. Team pursuit is three on three, each team starting opposite sides of the long track. Opposing skaters are nowhere near each other.BlueHen86 wrote:Is that one of those events where the top two teams advance, and then the rest of the teams also advance because they got screwed by the top tow teams during the race?93henfan wrote:USA just upset the gold medal favorite Canada team in the quarterfinals of women's team pursuit speedskating.
It's on MSNBC. That hockey game on NBC was over a long time ago.

Short track is out of control - I luv Ohno's POV ("hey - that's short track") on the crashes and DQs, compared to the epic melt-downs the Koreans seem to have over their fuck-ups...93henfan wrote:Nope - not short track. The Koreans are big effin cry babies. Screw 'em. How great was it when the Koreans were about to have a 1-2-3 finish in an event last week, only to have one of their skaters screw it up by taking himself and the second place guy out on the least turn. The US got 2 medals out of it, including an Ohno Silver.Rob Iola wrote:Short track is out of control - I luv Ohno's POV ("hey - that's short track") on the crashes and DQs, compared to the epic melt-downs the Koreans seem to have over their fuck-ups...93henfan wrote:

US in position for more gold they werent expected to compete for... They have already all but wrapped up the overall medal count, they very well could lock up the gold medal count as well.

What are the odds of that happening? Finishing with most golds? Seems like it's gonna be awfully tough.UNHWildCats wrote:US in position for more gold they werent expected to compete for... Re: 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics Thread
going into today Canada was projected for 13.3 and USA for 8.6. So far Canada is already out on one of those (Womens persuit) and US is in position for two additional so if USA takes both its now 12.3 to 10.6Mountaineer wrote:What are the odds of that happening? If US then wins mens gold hockey its now 11.3 for canada and 11.6 for USA
Obviously USA is not guaranteed to win any of those three golds but its very possible.

Another possible gold pickup there too, they were picked to win silver.Mountaineer wrote:

Re: 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics Thread
Looking at remaining events where we know of finalists the USA has a shot at 4 more golds and Canada 5 more. Germany has a shot at 1 and Norway 1 (these 4 countries currently are tied at 8 golds each)
For the remaining events where large fields remain I looked at projections and the USA has a shot at 3 more medals here (Ohno in 500 M short, mens short relay (outside shot here) and mens bobsled. Canada has a shot at another 3 golds with Men's 500M short, mens short relay and mens snowboard parrallell. Germany has a shot at 2 with Mens slalom and mens bobsled. Norway has a shot at Womens CC 30KM mass start.
My prediction is Canada and USA go into the Men's hockey final tied in gold medals.

Appreciate the breakdown T. Keep it up.
Taking the overall medal count is a fantastic achievement for Team USA. Getting the most golds would be icing on the cake.

USA1 keeps the top spot after the second run in the four-man bobsled, .40 seconds in front of the Canadian sled.
Runs three and four tomorrow.
Keep it going guys!

Yup, though to be fair I just read that the Swedes are the defending world champions. Not as much of an upset as I thought.danefan wrote:

US places skater in women's 1000M short final. This was an event Canada had a shot at but advanced none to the final
Canada has a shot at gold in just 6 events now while the US still has a shot in 7 events including three tonight. By nights end team USA could have the gold medal race all but wrapped up with a gold medal sweep.
