Intrauterine Devices or IUDs

An IUD is a small device shaped like a “T” that goes in your uterus. There are two types:

Copper IUD — The copper IUD goes by the brand name ParaGard. It releases a small amount of copper into the uterus, which prevents the sperm from reaching and fertilizing the egg. It fertilization does occur, the IUD keeps the fertilized egg from implanting in the lining of the uterus. A doctor needs to put in your copper IUD. It can stay in your uterus for 5 to 10 years.
Hormonal IUD — The hormonal IUD goes by the brand name Mirena. It is sometimes called an intrauterine system, or IUS. It releases progestin into the uterus, which keeps the ovaries from releasing an egg and causes the cervical mucus to thicken so sperm can’t reach the egg. It also affects the ability of a fertilized egg to successfully implant in the uterus. A doctor needs to put in a hormonal IUD. It can stay in your uterus for up to 5 years.
Way to respect religious beliefs or offer an easy out not available to the VAST majority of the military. This doesn't sound like equality to me.

I don't know that I want to go so far as to say most, but a rather large proportion of the best folk in my line of work in the Navy was actually female. In fact, one of the best master chiefs I knew in my rating was female. They don't belong? From what I saw, that's one of the biggest fallacies ever foisted on the American public.

You're preaching to the choir, here, dback!

I eat lunch with GATW & Ursus just about every Friday, and from these get together's, I'm very well versed on the subject! I can hardly get a word in between their constant yammering's on how their IUD's are workin'!

Seeing as how D1B might make yet another "Come Back", Ursus just might have to up the dosage, or find somethin' a little stronger!!

But, that's just a thought... :coffee:

The only thing Grizo is upset about is the decline of Ursus' back-peddling skills!

His veiled attempt an an apology is being considered for acceptance... :coffee:

The problem is trying to treat men and women as equal when they are not equal. They are different. They play very different roles in the biology of our species. The fact that one sex carries and bears offspring while the other does not is a huge difference. Plus I think our species evolved such that mothers are far more important to the early development of offspring than men are. If we were focused on having the most effective military as well as giving our offspring the best chance we would not have women in the military. We don't need them in the military. Our military would be just fine without them and, I think, would in fact be somewhat better on balance.

But we're not focused on such things. We're focused on egalitarianism that includes looking at the military as an "equal opportunity" avenue...even though when we say "equal opportunity" what we really mean is "equal results."

On IUDs: Like other forms of birth control, they are not 100% effective. They reduce pregnancy rates. They do not eliminate the occurence of pregnancies.

Ursus, on New Year's Eve...when he found out that pictures were taken.

Grizo didn't show up at Ursus' New Year's Eve party, so Ursus had to ring in the new year the only way he could.

It's not his fault, so please don't blame him...poor guy!??! :kisswink:

JohnStOnge wrote:Women shouldn't be in the military. I guess when it comes to this particular issue you could say that the problem is only associated with women who are capable of becoming pregnant. But the problem of pregnancy isn't limited to just this isolated case of refusal. It is nuts to be fielding soldiers that might become pregnant when we don't have to do that. Also I think there are other reasons why I don't think women should be in the military.

As for the woman in the story. Just simply discharge her. When you put your name on the dotted line you know darn well that deployment is a strong possibility.

While there aren't a lot of women that can hump the butt-plate of a mortar all day there are plenty of support functions that they excel at. Uncle Sam's crack troops are an asset to the military.

True dat! Men and women are not equal. Liberal morons frequently confuse "equal opportunity" with "requal results," to the extreme detriment of all concerned.

But that does not mean that women should be excluded from the military. Men are better at some tasks, while women are better at other tasks.

For example, military aviators take an exhaustive battery of psychological tests. Perhaps predictably, men consistently score higher on spatial analysis and depth perception, a critical ability when landing, taking off and shooting. But hold your horses! Women consistently score higher on emotional stability and making rational decisions under pressure. This translates into women taking fewer risks than men. Men, for example, are more willing to rush headlong into the fray of combat, which may be the most appropriate response in some situations, but not in others. Women tend to pick and choose their battles more carefully.

Another example of the difference between men and women, as shown by Navy safety stats from the eighties and nineties, is that men lost more work days on average than women. Apparently the risky behavior resulting in drunkenness, fighting and accidents trumps the loss of workdays due to pregancies, menstruation and headaches.

Vive le difference!!! I say that women and men working together make the team stronger.

This woman's mom should be tried instead for backing out on her last minute.

Wait, you're saying the grandma should be tried...for a crime?

What criminal statute did the grandma violate?
