I just got the news this morning. Mark your calendars. This doesn't happen at El Cid with the same frequency that it does in other places.

BTW- Higgins did not announce that Starks would be leading the TO at El Cid. He announced that he would compete for the job with Cam Turner and the new freshman. Plus, Starks had already said back in December that he would be sitting out spring practice for academic reasons and quite possibly leaving The Citadel. Good riddance if he's guilty, and good riddance if he isn't.

I agree, good bye, now. Don't wait for the courts "to decide" stuff, etc., like 70% of the college programs do with players in trouble.

Will Coach Rocco have an assistant follow Starks' proceedings? :coffee: Will he be on Liberty's roster in 2012?

Doubtful about the LIberty thing, although I know you're being sarcastic. That being said, it is beginning to look like this goes deeper than just a thug football player. He said he was living off campus in his bond hearing. If true, Coach Higgins has some serious questions to answer.

Also, the victim of the kidnapping-armed robbery was an assistant coach at The Citadel (a 2007 grad). Starks was accompanied by some former player named Rice. Nobody seems to know who he is other than that he was dismissed from the school a couple years ago. The two of them were also accompanied by a couple of cofc students, but then that's not really newsworthy.

The plot thickens. I can tell you this... if some of the things that have been alleged to be going on were really going on... expect more fireworks. The alumni are hotter than hell right now that there were substantial warning signs and the kid was allowed to stick around.

comments made on citadel board say there are pictures on his facebook page showing him flashing gang signs and making references to showing blood colors proudly or something to that effect.

I don't EVER want to see another post from a Citadel fan about Georgia Southern being "thug U" again.

This is by FAR worse than any transgression any GSU player has ever done. When you combine this crime with the fact that the Citadel recruited this thug who has gang crap all over his internet page (something the school could have easily checked out, perhaps they did and didn't care) it looks real bad for Citadel, far worse than anything that has occured at any of the other SoCon schools.

I understand that we're still trying to decide between taking Starks or Stephen Lloyd.

Lloyd didn't play ball for VMI), which is irrelevant in this exchange. No school's admissions policies are rock-hard perfect, nor can anyone predict these happenings when a young man/woman enrolls at our respective schools. (you already have J-Courtney williams, anyway.) :twocents:

It's starting to look like this thing is going to snowball in a big way. Expect to see some athletic and non-athletic staff dismissals and resignations soon.

There are also reports that the Rice kid was charged with a sex crime involving underage girls while he was still in HS. It was mentioned that because of the racial aspect (black male/white underage female) and the potential powderkeg in the community the case went to juvenile court and the charges were reduced down to the point where it was MOL moot.

I have no written evidence of this- only a post on another message board by a poster who lives in the kid's home town hence it is rumor as far as I'm concerned- but if this is true perhaps there is a situation within the football program at Citadel that is not consistent with the overall standards of the school which, if true, is a shame.

I had a thought-out, well-reasoned treatise here two minutes ago. Basically, I effectively rebutted KD's pettiness and Red's complete and utter missing of the point.

Then I realized that neither of you would ever comprehend it. Talking to you guys is like talking to a haircut.

Hey Blue- none of this changes the fact that this would not be news in Pig's A$$, Georgia.

If the coaching staff is complacent in any of this they will be replaced. We'd rather lose with real cadets.

It was pretty big news when right before the 2008 season one of our players dented someone's car in a verbal altercation. Also, every GSU fan is well aware of Antonio Henton's heinous crime of offering a woman money for a BJ. Considering that and the fact that we haven't had a player commit a crime this serious at least in the 14 seasons that i have followed GSU football, I'd say it'd be big news.

Two former football players interviewed by The Post and Courier said it is not uncommon for players to have off-campus apartments for use on weekends and holidays and during the summer.

Seems strange for The Citadel to allow this
