Jerry Brown seeks return to Calif. governor's seat

Post by dbackjon »

Democrat Jerry Brown officially entered the California governor's race Tuesday, giving the party an iconic candidate in a contest expected to be the most costly in state history.

The state attorney general, who served two terms as governor in the era before term limits, officially declared his candidacy on his Web site. The announcement has been expected for months, while Brown was quietly raising millions of dollars.

Brown, who will turn 72 next month, is the only serious Democratic contender. His ability to raise money and gain endorsements frightened away other Democrats, including San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom.

After the June primary, Brown will face of one of two wealthy Silicon Valley Republicans in the general election: former eBay CEO Meg Whitman, a billionaire, or state Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner, who also became a multimillionaire as a high-tech entrepreneur.

Brown says only someone with a long political resume such as his has the experience to solve California's ongoing fiscal crisis and its many other problems, from the quality of its public schools to the neglect of its state park system.

Long live Jerry Brown! He was the first person to recieve my vote for president.
"Sarah Palin absolutely blew AWAY the audience tonight. If there was any doubt as to whether she was savvy enough, tough enough or smart enough to carry the mantle of Vice President, she put those fears to rest tonight. She took on Barack Obama DIRECTLY on every issue and exposed... She did it with warmth and humor, and came across as the every-person....it's becoming mroe and more clear that she was a genius pick for McCain."

You can come out to visit Mom and get your nails done too.

Mom was scattered off the cliffs by Mendocino years ago. You're free to go. You probably won't do it though, but if you can hang on until Jerry Brown gets elected governor things are bound to get better. If you were made of sterner stuff I'd recommend the mid-west, but you hot-house flowers don't transplant very well to the real world.

Yeah...

...like I've never been out of CA. :coffee:

Actually, looking within 40 mi. of Nashville...preferably to the south. There's plenty of good land south around Franklin. Still have two major projects to go out here that will take 2-3 years, but am making progress. Just faxed in the docs for one of the new S-Corps this afternoon. Don't forget, Hippiedawg, I only turn 50 this year, and I'm already set for retirement. Everything I'm doing is just gravy.

If you're not doing time for cultivation when I get back there, I promise to invite you along for my Jackson pilgrimage.

Good luck with the retirement. :thumb:

Haven't done any cultivating since I left CA 27 years ago, if I needed any weed I'd just ask about any of my young musician friends. They've sure raised the bar since the days of tossing a dead catfish in a hole and coming back in the fall. If you don't get run off for being from California I might go with you to Jackson or more likely meet you down there based on our respective locations. Even though I'm in Illinois I'm actually a little closer to Jackson than to Chicago, the Mississippi border is about three hours from here.

This is old news. We've known about it for at least 9 months. He just made it official today. I can't believe that in my 20-year-old naivete I actually wrote Brown in for veep on a ticket with Carter. I'd still vote for Carter in a heartbeat, but I've since learned what a nutcase Brown really is.

In 2010, Cali is going Meg, Meg, Meg!!!

I don't usually "put out" on the first date, but I might make an exception for her; providing, of course, that she takes me to a nice place.

She was good, but she'll never beat the immortal Amy Grant -- in EITHER category.

Moonbeam sets the tone...

Jerry Brown urges unions to 'attack'

March 17, 2010 | 12:12 pm

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/califor ... ttack.html
Faced with the daunting prospect of being significantly outspent by his Republican opponent, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jerry Brown spoke to a labor group Tuesday and urged them to go on the offensive.
"We're going to attack whenever we can, but I'd rather have you attack," Brown said at a gathering of the California delegation of the Laborers' International Union of North America in Sacramento. "I'd rather be the nice guy in this race. We'll leave [the attacks] to ... the Democratic Party and others."

Tucker Bounds, a spokesman for GOP candidate Meg Whitman, said Brown's pitch was unseemly and perhaps even illegal.

"I think this is pretty clear evidence that Jerry Brown is actively seeking independent support to prop up his campaign from the unions attacking Meg Whitman," Bounds said. "And more importantly, I think, it's Jerry Brown in his own words laying out a very cynical campaign strategy that's playing fast and loose with the campaign rules in California."
