Liberty LAX starts tonight!!!

The expansion Liberty Women's Lacrosse team begins play TONIGHT on the road at Longwood. The Flames will play a 12-game (essentially barnstorming) inaugural schedule with two home games: 3/20 vs. Anne Arundel (who?!?) and 3/26 vs. Central Connecticut. The interesting quirk in the schedule is Liberty's neutral-field gave vs. UC Davis at St. Francis (might be a mini-tournament or it could just be picking up a team on an extended road trip like sometimes happens in basketball). The road trips are as close as Longwood and as far as Detroit-Mercy and Iona.

The Flames average 5'6" with three players topping out at 5' even. Goallie Blaine Barnhart of Lexington, KY, is the tallest at 5'11". The team is led by Head Coach Regan Denham (Messiah '04), late of D-III Springfield College, and GA Jennifer Venter (Messiah '09).

Next school year, Liberty adds Women's Swimming. A head coach has been hired, but there is no team and no schedule as of yet. I do believe that the first four LOIs have been submitted.

Congrats to Liberty on the new program. I'd appreciate periodic progress reports from TTL, SuperJon, etc., if you are in the area and interested.

Longwood won 21-3 tonight. DI LAX is serious business.

We're basically a non-scholarship team right now. It's our former club team playing at the Division I level. Next year we'll have a couple of scholarships and then I think we plan to add more in the future years.

The team got their first win today with a 17-16 win over Howard in Double OT.
